I just bought what I'm talking is a 77 luv 4x4. (Didn't know they had 4x4s in 77 but...) anyways I noticed one cv shaft was missing when I bought it. Is it OK to drive without one in?

Without the CV axle the differential and hub have an open hole, lube can get out, contamination can get in. A CV will be nearly impossible to find, as will anything you may ruin driving it without the differential & hub sealed.
'79 was the first year for 4x4 LUVs, it could have had a '77 body mated to a later 4x4 frame/drivetrain and then registered as a '77 since all the ID numbers are on the body. You need to know the year of the frame/drivetrain when buying replacement parts, there were a few differences between model years.

Impossible to find. I've been looking since November. Many rebuilt ones show compatibility. I've been shipped 6. No 2 the same. None worked. Hate to be so negative.

Ok well that stinks. Is there a way to seal it so crappie won't get in there? I don't NEED 4wd but would like to drive it. Can I switch the spindles to make it 2wd or is there more to it? Thanks!

You can get the boot kits on ebay. Cheap not sure how that would help

Yeah the problem is I only have 1 of 2 cv shafts. The truck didn't come with the other one.

Did you have any luck finding a CV axle? I noticed napa has some on their website, not sure if it is the right part or not. It looks like the right one from the pictures. I have to get my CV axles either rebuilt or replaced before I can use my 4wd... the boots are shot and have been for years.

Not sure if that link will work or not. Napa part number NMD 959353.

NAPA sent me 6 different axles that showed compatible. None worked. I LUV my truck, and now I can't drive the damn thing till March.
