hi everyone.

hey, does anyone have a pic of the center link for the 80' 4wd?

i have been looking at mine, and i do not see the hole, where you would mount the steering damper/stabilizer.

im figuring over the years someone just used one off a 2wd.

i have purchased a new gabriel stabilizer, and it says to mount it on stock mounts, but i dont see any.

if you have a picture of the mounted stabilzer / damper, could you let me have a look at it, so i can see if i need to replace some parts.

thank you in advance.

Oddly enough I've never noticed a difference between the 2WD and 4WD center link. I have several 4WD LUVs and I don't think any of them has ever had a steering stabilizer. Wasn't there when I got the trucks and never was a priority for me I guess. But I do see that there are different parts listed for 2 and 4WD, and the 4WD parts shown at places like www.rockauto.com have a hole for connecting one. I guess you learn something new everyday.

i agree.
this is me second luv, but first 4wd luv.
i have 31's on it, and it is a little bump steer crazy at times.
for the life of me, i couldnt see where the "stock mounts" were, and after seeing the photos, i see why. someone obviously swapped them out for 2wd versions, which is nice to know they fit, but the steering stabilizer is going to be nice.
i do see that the idler arm bracket is going to need to be changed to 4wd version, and man it looks like those are a buggar to find.

i have been using rockauto a lot, and they are awesome for finding parts at good prices, but no bracket.

i have another question regarding ball joints.

i need to replace both upper and lower, and i need to know if anyone has any advice. do i need to use a ball joint press? any advice would be awesome.

thank you all!

The idler arm mount has always been the same as the 2WD on all the 79-80 4x4 LUVs I've had. Grease fitting on the top, just like the one on the left. The one on the right in the picture that OZLuvTrucker posted looks like the one off my 86 Isuzu Trooper. It might also match up to the 81-82 LUV and 83+ PuPs

i just had a look through rockauto for 81/82 luv, and 86 trooper, and early isuzu pup, and couldnt find the bracket on the right. i suppose it would be possible to create a new mounting point, but it seems odd that there is supposed to be a stock mount.

Looking at my part manuals here is what I come up with. 72-80 2wd LUV's all have the same center link, they are hexagon and adjustable. The 79-80 4wd have a round non adjustable rod, no place for a steering stabilizer and no stabilizer shown in the parts manual, the tie rods are where you adjust toe with the 4X4 set up as opposed to the 2wd that you adjust the toe by the hexagon adjustable center link. The 81-82 center link has a spot for the steering stabilizer and a stabilizer listed for them.

That explains it. I didn't have my parts manual near me to check it out. I kind of figured that the stabilizer was never there on any of my 79-80 4x4 trucks because they didn't come with it.

You could mount a generic one somehow or another though, attached to the frame or axle tube at one end and the center link on the other.
