I was looking around my Front Differential on my 1980 4x4 Luv to change out the old fluid. The Rear was easy as there is a drain-plug, and a fill-plug. I can only see a fill-plug on my front differential. It's half-way up the case, just like on the rear. But nowhere a drain. I searched the list already, read through my Hanes Manual, and checked the online Chilton from my Library. Nothing in particular is on the list, and the other's just say, "change the front Differential fluid at 30,000 miles". So now the dalema, how has other's on the list changed their's when it came to routine maintenance? Do I have to try to find a Gear-oil pump to try to vacuum the old oil out? That's what I assumed, but wanted to know for sure before I try to go find one to buy. I know once emptied, I fill fluid to till it starts leaking out the fill-plug, tighten, and go. Thanks for your time and any answer's. Aloha 8)

Look on the rear (driveshaft side) of the front differential, there are 9 studs with nuts & 1 bolt holding the 3rd member to the axle housing. The bolt on the bottom passenger side is the drain, it's only 8mm so it's very slow to empty. 12mm wrench fits. It takes 1.7 pints to fill.

I usually try to get mine nice and warm before changing it, a few miles on gravel in 4-Hi would do it. That helps it flow out that tiny drain hole a little bit. Also make certain you can get the fill plug out first and leave it out while it drains.
