I have a '79 4x4 I'm in the process of painting and looking for new tires and wheels. I want to run the Cragar Soft 8's in a 15" and am looking at getting the Kumho Road Venture MT KL71 tires in LT235/75R15. So if my math is correct......23.5/2.54=9.251" wide. So... 9.251x0.75=6.938" tall. 6.938x2=13.876+15=28.876 total diameter of wheel. I want to know if this will clear on my truck without a lift kit. I'm going to do some measurments when I leave work today but also wanted ya'lls advice.
Thanks

They might clear on a 6" rim but on an 8" the fronts would be iffy without some trimming, the rears won't be a problem.
Your math is correct but an 8" rim is too wide for that size tire. While the section width is wider than 8" the tread width is less- the rim width should not be greater than the tread. I would use either a wider tire or a narrower rim. Also you don't say what offset/backspacing your new rims will have- it makes a difference. The more backspacing the closer the inside of the tire/rim is to the frame/suspension. Too much & it will rub. Conversely the less backspacing the farther out the outside tire/wheel rim will be & the more likely it will be to hit the fender.
235/75R15 is the stock tire size that came on early Troopers with 6" rims with 3.75" backspace. Your LUV probably came with a similar rim but in 14" and about a 26"-28" diameter tire. You will need to use a similar backspace to clear on the inside, which means with an 8" rim the outer edge of the wheel/tire will immediately be 2" farther out than your stock setup plus 1/2 any additional diameter. Take a block of something (foam or wood or...) the added thickness & check the clearance between your current tire/rim on the outside corner. The problem areas are the bottom front and rear corners of the front fender at full lock turn & full compression. If your test spacer block clears with room to spare then the new tire/rim probably will also. If they don't clear the front portion of the fender can be trimmed more than the rear. A suspension lift will help clearance under normal driving but not at full compression, a body lift moves the problem sheet metal up more out of the way.

Not true- a 235/75/15 tire calculates to be about 3/8" wider & 5/8" taller than a 225/75/15, the section width on one is 10mm wider, the aspect ratio & wheel diameter are the same, the numbers molded into the sidewall say one is bigger than the other.
