Hello All

I am still pretty new to these forums, been reading but not posting. I have a a 1980 mikado 4x4, and I am curious what lubricant to use in the manual transmission/transfer case? I have used Royal Purple Synchromax before in my bmw's, which required ATF in the 5 speeds... just curious if anyone has tried this Royal Purple stuff before? I have read on here that a lot of people seem to recommend a good 30w motor oil in the tranny/transfer case. Which 30w is recommended? I would like to use a synthetic if possible... had really good luck in the past.

Here is a link to the Synchromax stuff. http://royalpurpleconsumer.com/products ... ion-fluid/

Any help is appreciated! And thank you!

Motor oil is what is supposed to be in it. Pick any type you would want. Most have no issue with the regular type.

What weight of oil do people recommend using? My Haynes(yes crappy) manual says to use just engine oil. So 10w30 is good enough? Or just just straight 30w a better choice? I am getting ready to drive this pickup to Burning Man in a few weeks, which is held in the Northern Nevada Black Rock Desert. Figure temps of 100 degrees, but I do plan to do most of my driving during the cooler mornings.

Is Power Punch a good idea, or bad idea? My transmission seems to shift alright, some minor noise in first gear when I left off the gas but this is not bad... not nearly as much noise as an old chevy or Ford truck 4spd tranny. I have never been one to use Power Punch, but if a little bit will help then I will use it.

Use whatever viscosity is appropriate for the motor, based on the expected temperatures while driving.
