O.K. so, here's the deal, I am purchasing a 4x4 Luv. I plan on hauling water up logging roads. I have a 330 gallon tank. I know that water weighs roughly 7.5 lbs to the gallon. (give or take) I will have some other equipment that must go say approx. another 220 lbs. I know that I can not fill the tank up to capacity. just trying to figure out how many gallons I can haul up those roads. 4x4 is needed because of terrain issues. This small pickup will be worked hard!! I would pick another truck but, For me it must be a Luv. My whole fleet will be made of Luv pickups. 2 wheel drives for the city and 4x4 for going into the hills.

Water is over 8 pounds/gal. 120 gallons will give you about 1000 pounds along with the other stuff put you close the 1200 or whatever manufacturers recommendation. I have had at least 1800 in mine a few times, but took it easy and picked smooth roads.

I once hauled 2250 lbs of gravel in mine. I often haul oak firewood stacked cab-high, probably weighs about a ton.

I got the tank to the house and low n behold, it's too big to fit. Got a trailer to haul the equipment. I hope this will work. If this does, all of my donor pickups will become my company trucks.

i know my trooper is 1\2 ton or more than a luv.
but it has the same axils and brakes as a 4wd LUV

on road many times ive had a pup or luv on a trailer. 1,500lb trailer and 3,000lb auto
its a real load but it handles it, granted im the slowest auto on the road

one time i had two cord on but i did'ent leave the place. that was a low range, 1st gear only load.
that was too much......even for me.....
the trailer and wood was about 8,000LBs 8O

i would think it could haul a tank that size in a trailer just fine if you took your time and the trailer has decent suspension under it

I towed a broken-down full size pickup for several miles, used to tow a bass boat everywhere, so your rig will tow about anything you can hook up to it or haul about anything you can stuff into the bed- it just won't stop for squat with all that extra weight. Go slow, allow plenty of room & time to get stopped, especially on logging roads. Trailer brakes would be a really good idea.

Water weighs 8.33 a gallon, diesel weighs 7.5 lbs per gallon, take it from an old fireman. You are taking a big chance trying to pull much with your Luv because they don't weigh very much and the trailer just may push your truck sideways and overturn it!! Electric brakes with a manual override are an absolute must!! But it is still a bad idea because the front end gears are pretty small and won't take a lot of abuse either, best you get a full size truck to do your water hauling, they will weigh at least 1,500 lbs or more than your little Luv.
Or install up to a 100 gal tank in the bed. That is about 833 lbs though and may break things too. By the way one sguare foot will hold 7.48 gal of fluids, just for your measurements.. Sorry I hit an extra digit, should read 880 lbs of water. Be sure to build the tank so you haul it either completely full or empty
Good luck,
dp

if you absolutely must, you can use monroe load adjusting shocks in the rear to help with the weight.
