Now that i have a early Isuzu Trooper for 4x4 duties, my 4x4 Luv is only street driven. As i had removed the front sway bar from the Troop for greater flex, i compared it to my stock Luv sway bar. The two bars are almost identical except for diameter, the Troop bar is much thicker. Next step was to bolt the Troop bar up under the Luv and what do you know, perfect fit. All hardware from the Luv was reused, only the bars were swapped. 8)

what good would this do. what is the point in switching it? if the bar is thicker wouldnt it make the ride bouncier.

Sway bar( key word SWAY) affects lateral roll( side to side) not ride as the suspension moves up and down so does the bar but as the truck gets side load ie one side going up one side going down the difference in height results in a torsional or twisting load on the bar. Which of course it tries to resist, so if you go into a turn to fast and the truck starts to lean outward and lift the inside wheels a stiffer sway bar will help prevent the body roll.

Old post but I am currently contemplating the same swap with my newly aquired Trooper parts. Question though, most sway bar upgrades include adding a rear bar to balance the combo, is there a source for a good rear bar for the LUV that might work well with the heavier Trooper bar?

You may be able to retrofit a rear sway bar from a later model Trooper or similar truck.

I would assume '84-'86 Trooper, they had the same 54" WMS to WMS as a LUV, '87-'91 Troopers increased to 58", even wider from '92-on.

Does this swap work for 2WD luv? I pulled a 84 trooper sway bar and cleaned it up. Tried installing it but the sway bar bushing locations do not line up as well as the original post.
Worse case is move mounts in about 1-2" to match new sway bar locations
