guys, i need some fast help and advice!!

the truck starting pulling REALLY HARD to either side as you drive down the road. Speed will vary the rate at which it does this. and also changes the force at which it pulls.

i was driving on the freeway and damn near broke both arms trying to keep it the truck in my lane.

the only thing i can think of that would cause this would be a wheel coming loose, but they are ALL nice and snug. i also tried to envision the problem and the only other conclusion is a REALLY BAD wheel wobble.

Oh, and the problem will go away if i turn the wheel ALL the way to one side. but when i turn right, the problem comes back...

PLEASE HELP! i'm down to one car again...

I agree. Check tie rods, pitman arm, drag link for play.

i had a friend take a look a few weeks ago when i was having the same problem (although it wasnt this bad)

he suggested the gearbox was to blame. he said he didnt see any play in the tie rods themselves.

from a quick visual reference using the fenders as a measuring point, the toe seems to be ok throughout the complete rotation on both tires.

sunday is the next day off i have, so keep the suggestions coming, it will give me something to check out.

(MAN, do i really hope i don't have to completely rebuild the front suspension....)

Could be wheel bearings if all externals look good. Jack the front end up and grab each tire top and bottom and try to shake it top to bottom. If it moves at all I believe this will tell you that your bearing inside the hub is bad. You might want to take the hubs apart anyway and check them, verify they are ok. Good luck.

Dies when not cranking.... Check the coil wires and ignition stuff. Sounds to me like it is giving spark when the key is in "start" and kills the spark when it's in the "on" position.

yeah, i was reading another thread that the ballast resistor may be fried and killing spark. or the coil is dead.

just doesn't make sense when i was just driving the truck yesterday...

I would guess ball joint and resistor.

Well, checked the front end today,

i have NO PLAY in ANY front end parts.

tie rods are tight, ball joints are good (also thought about if i had broken a ball joint, the wheel and spindle would have fallen off during a turn)

no play (that i can tell) in the pitman arm or idler arm.

control arms are not bent, caster seems to be ok based on the angle in the service manual.

wheel bearing test passed, no play, took wheels off and checked for wobble and in/out play

I CANNOT FIGURE THIS BASTARD OUT!!!

the very last thing i can think of is a bad gearbox, but it doesnt seem to have ALOT of play in it. at least not enough to cause this death-pulling.

remember, speed will cause the force and intensity of the pull to change. :smt012 :smt017 :smt104 <-----Me and my Mechanic friend...

dang it ron! what did you sell me! lol, jk

Did you put the weight of the truck on the lower control arms and then test if the ball joints had play? Put a two by four or something similar between the ground and the tire pry up and look for play in the area of the ball joints. There shouldnt be any play. Or grease the ball joints and see if there is any change. Grease is my trucks sweet medicine right now.

Make sure the rear leaf springs all not cracked and tight. Make sure the U bolts are tight. The rear end could be moving around, and getting you squwerley.

This may be a dumb question but, are your front hubs locked? Are you somehow dropping into 4wd? Even if the transmission's not in 4wd, maybe the front axles or the front differential are binding up.

they are not locked, and the trans is not engaged. i haven't tried driving it in 4wd for fear it may break something else.

i dunno if you guys saw in that first vid, but the passenger side bushing is just toast. anyone have a part number to that bushing that i can use to cross reference? turns out moog doesnt make them, and no one else locally has that one. i think i will call energy suspension and see what comes in a universal size...

Yea but that's just the sway bar. I don't think it would be the cause. Mine is off right now and the truck drives fine.
How do the strut rod bushings look? That's the rod from the lower control arm, to the front. The bushings are at the front.

bushings are ok, but i think i figured it out.

i drove to my mechanic today, and sad to say, he's going out of business....

as i was driving home, i started hearing the bearing on the driver side. hopefully, it's not major, but if damage is substantial, i dunno what im gonna do. i was hoping it was a gearbox issue since i have an extra one, but it doesnt seem to be the case.

i will tear it apart this saturday (hopefully it's not snowing...
