Hey guys I just found this site. I bought a 79 LUV 4x4 last night. The reason for the purchase was to pack a dirt track, I thought this would be perfect; light weight, short wheel base, 4x4.

Now for the question: I want to put the widest smooth flat tire possible on it for packing (won't be driven on the road). I am not a wheel/tire guy at all. I see it has 14" 6 bolt wheels. I looked for adapters (WOW kind of pricy) so I could run 15" 5 bolt with dirt track tires. They are a dime a dozen around here with all the stock car and sprint car racing in the area (Iowa).

Ideas?

Would like 10" or 12" wide tires, like I said I can find 15" with 2.5" offset all over. Would I be better off to have machine shop make adapters/spacers or is there something out there that will work? Wheels, adapters, spacers, tires???

I too would like some info on the spacers. And could you post a link to the spacers you did find?

It's the same bolt pattern as the 2000+ Chevy 2WD Tahoes and 1/2 ton trucks. See what off set you can find for them.

Yeah, I was parked next to one of those and took the liberty to measure the bolt pattern. Looked very close. Should be a good option for those wanting bigger tires.

I did learn that they are 6 on 5.5" and there are plenty of them around in 15". Now I need to find out the hub size, most wheels dont list this measurement. You can buy them with backspace fro 0 to 4.5".

Found some wheels at a local junk yard. 15", 6 on 5.5". They had 3.5" backspace. I used used Hoosier G60 stock car tires from a buddy. Had to do a little fender triming on the front clip but not too much.
