i know kits can be found for the rear end but is there one that will fit up front as well?

No.
Isuzu 10-bolt gears were available in 3.42, 3.73, 4.10, 4.30, 4.56, 4.77 & 5.38 ratios, all can be fitted to the LUV rear differential.
The problem is the Isuzu 8-bolt front differential, they only came in two ratios, 4.10 (LUVs & P'UPs) and 4.56 (Troopers).
Just put larger diameter tires on it, a 31" tire will give about the same final drive as 3.73 gears with stock tires, correct the speedo with a gear from an auto trans (fewer teeth).

not a easy thing to do but......

the trans from a 86/87 4x4 pup or trooper will give you a 5TH gear.

and being a gasser you can swap in a newer 88/91 MUA from a 2.6L trooper
just there a HYD clutch and mounts are a little different.
though you have to change the mounts for a 86/87 one as well.

the 88/91 2.8L V-6 has a diffrent bell than the I-4 gasser engines :!:

The 86-87s are the easiest to convert because of the cable clutch but the later one (2.6 style) is stronger but you must convert to a hyd. clutch setup.

I used a 87 Trooper trans for my swap and the related parts

86/87 are a cable clutch MSG trans, and are as close as your going to get to a bolt in.

its a 5 speed version of the MSG 4 speed that was sold 79/85
from the center plate forward its a 50/50 chance its 100% the same as the 5 speed trans.

since you have a gasser this does not matter, but i will add it any way.
if you had a diesel then swapping bells would be very important cause the starter is on the other side of the gas engine.
the difference is in the front bearing cover if it has 6 bolts its the same and bell housings can be swapped, if its 4 bolts bell housings can not be swapped

the 5TH gear is added just behind the center plate making the trans about 5" longer.
but from the center plate forward its the same length.
do to being 5" longer the T-case shifter moves back 5"~ so new hole in the cab floor LOL

ive been working on mine (fryd bearings do to bad inner shifter boot leaking oil) grrrrrrrrrr
so ive taken many photos of mine.

the only other things you could do is a after market drive-line O\D

for make a bell-housing that fits a different trans. 8O :egeek

i will definately look into that actually...
the 5 speed will be NICE for freeway driving so i dont wear out a brand new motor faster over-revving the life out of it to hit 70.
now that that idea was popped in my head... is there any way to setup overdrive on the LUV? that would be awesome for the roadtrips i wanna take it on

sadly any thing other than the 5 speed MSG or MUA trans would need to be 100% custom made, to fit the LUV.

to do a extra O\D out side of the trans you could buy a O\D at very high cost there like $1,000/3,000 in coin!!!
or you could maybe find a O\D splitter box from say an old 1-1/2 ton truck???
or find an under drive box an mount it the other way to make it a O\D????
thats just some ideas that have come to me.

all though, what i can tell you is that with the troopers 4.55 gears, the 14.5% O\D 5 speed MSG, 31" tires, im turning 2,600 rpms at 60mph

with a 4X4 luv or pup with the same 86/87 5 speed trans, and same 31" tires, just different gears 4.11s you would do something like 2,500rpms at 70 mph.

question is, is there space on a LUV to swing 31/10.50/15 tires??
or is somthing like 235/75/15 as big as you can fit :?:

you can plug numbers in to this for getting a ball park ideas.

ahh the number crunching it burns!!!
31's not a highly likely path for my luv im kinda planning on the lowering route a 2wd base would be nice for the project but eh i have a new motor and a shockingly straight and rust free body/frame so a huge amount of body work wont be needed. hell i might look into removing the 4wd setup and making it a street only truck since i dont want to go out and destroy it off road in the first place. and with the mileage and a 5 speed it would be a great lil street cruiser. and it would be much simpler to find a 2wd 5 speed. with less screwing with my drivelines.
is it possible to pull out the 4wd parts from the front end remove the FR driveline and fully convert it to a 2wd (with some cutting, grinding and welding time of course.) but what all would need to be done. im heading down to the garage in a few to check that out. but experienced advice would be nice to have..
from the sound of it there are very little options for a 4wd setup for higher top speed compared to the 2wd since you can swap out to a 5 speed tranny with a newer pup or even an S10 rear end and put way more power to the wheels, and lowering down as far as im thinking would raise problems with the driveline angle as it is dealing with one is bad enough but 2 is just not something im willing to do.

has anyone switched from 4x4 to 4x2 on the luv that would know what do do? i want to keep my frame/chassis, it is all in amazing shape not a single spot of rust so a frame swap doesnt seem like the best option at this point.
