Alright so i got the idea for a custom lift while working on a barn, funny i know. But we were welding on some 4 inch tubing and then it hit me. Since there are no lifts made for the LUV except universal ones i thought why not make one out of some 4 inch tubing. I thought that i would run it the length of the cab on both sides and 1 along the front for the fenders. Either do the same on the bed or just short individual pieces for each bolt. Call me a redneck if you will but I'm from Oklahoma so I'm used to it :ebiggrin If you think this is a good idea plz let me know and when i start on it (which might be possibly tomorrow if i can make it to the hardware store) I'll post some pics. I believe it will work out fine but whatever problems I run across I'll let y'all know. And if it works it should work with any size tubing. Oh and I'll also be reinforcing the bolt areas in the cab for the extra support.

Actually, a lot of companies offered body lifts for LUVs back in the day, however, I'd stay away from body lifts altogether. All they do is raise your center of gravity, with no real benefits.

Where you at in Oklahoma? I'm up in Tulsa.

I'm down by Lawton :/ and I want the lift because I'm looking for some pretty good tire clearance. If you have another idea for the extra clearance plz let me know because like I said I'm looking for some really good tire clearance.

Sas? Or if you don't want to undergo that, just cut your fenders.

Cut fenders >>>>> Body lift

Most of the body lifts were 4" but they did have some 6" IIRC. I had a 4" but still ran 14" tires on my 79, worked good for me, but their is no hills or trails around me. Just the family farm. I have wanted to see someone do a lift like the late model IFS Chevys.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

You can make your own body lift kit. Use some 3", thick wall tubing, cut to length, you wish to lift. Weld washers on both ends and install between the body and frame. For the front radiator core support and bed, use 2" diameter tubing. The biggest problem for high body lift kits is getting the steering wheel, etc lined up. Built some of these years ago, we welded the lift kit to the frame, and installed steering ujoints, removing the rubber biscuit. Be sure to unhook all your lines and wiring from the frame clips before lifting body, then reinstall after lift blocks are installed.
