i have a 1980 Chevy Luv that i want to give a little bit more ground clearance so i was wondering if the only thing i needed to do to give my luv a little lift would be to flip the axle under the leaf spring in the back and not to sure but for the front end because there are torsion bars would i jsut have to turn them and raise it? point is i need some advice. Thank You

You will not be able to raise the front enough after doing a SOA to match the rear by just cranking the t bars.

Crank the t bars as much as you dare, then get longer shackles for the rear or re arched leaf springs to level your truck out.

Cranking the t-bars will also make the front suspension stiffer. At max crank it will be very bouncy, your rear will still be relatively soft, so if you removed spring leaves from a SOA to level it you would compound the ride difference. The front will pogo and will drive really stange with the rear so soft, especially around corners.
Crank the bars for the lift you want, then use helper springs first to increase the rear height and match the increased front stiffnes, then add longer shackles to level it if necessary.

If you want ground clearence try a body lift along with a torsion bar adjustment it will give you alittle more room too install larger dia tires, One of my Luv's I've done this with and I run 31x10.50's for about 15 year's and the ride is ok.

There are no out of the box suspension lifts for these trucks. Any kind of suspension lift (other than a torsion bar crank), will be custom.

What are you wanting out of your truck? Bigger tires for looks? ground clearance because you bottom out on speedbumps? What you use your truck for makes a huge difference on what route you should take with lifting your truck.

pretty much both. i would like ground clearance and also a bigger tire size. just want a toy that is also a daily driver. something that i can play in the mud with and then head to auto tech( class)

A body lift is MUCH easier than a suspension lift which nobody makes one. Leave rear spring's under the axle and add longer shackles too even out the body after adjusting the torsion bars, be sure you count the turn's on the torsion bar when raising it up or measure the gap between the tire and the fender and for sure too spray some penetrate on the torsion bar bolts way ahead of time.

Not a LUv but you get an idea of how a lift kit is done. 1 to 2 inch lift kits usually go in with little mods, 3 to 5 inches or bigger and you need to address brake lines, steering, and e-brake mods.

LuvTrucking that's a good price for that kit and it's not that hard too put on, get a couple of buddy's over because you'll need help lifting the bed and body and I hope you have air tools( I didn't when I done mine) and enjoy the day. The 2" wiil be less trouble but it's depend's on what size tires you want to run. If you have any questions just ask, I'll cut one up with a quickness to make it fit.

I had the 3" on my 79 when I had it. I did not like the stock shifter setup with it.... Used it like till I found a VW shifter extension for the early Bus style.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

so when i crank on my t bars how much should i crank and once they are all they way up how much lift will that give? i am thinking like 2 inch body lift then cranking the t bars for another 2 inchs then puting some 29/10.5/14r tsl on.

Long shackles are not a good idea. They will allow the truck to sway more in turns etc. If you look at vehicle that have had long shackles on them you will see the shackles not being perpendicular to the frame.
Go to a spring shop and tell them how much you want to raise the rear end. (First I'd turn up the front bars to see how much ride you want to handle) They can then make a set of springs for you. I'd suggest you have them made about 1/2" taller, as they will settle some.
