hi guys, just wanted to ask a quick question.

how much different is the stock 4spd trans from the 4wd 4 spd?

i'm heading out to california in a few days, and i'm making a list of all the parts that are coming back with me. one item im debating is the trans from my 2wd.

i figure that if i can use it in case the 4wd trans breaks down, i have a spare. my shop service manual doesnt say if they are interchangeable. i know that it must mate to the transfer case.


the 4wd is a 79 and my 2wd is an 80.

If you are asking if you can fit the transfer case to the 2wd tranny the answer is no. The 4wd tranny & transfer are a unit.
