Use the search icon on this site. There are all kinds of threads about V8 swaps.

Most popular is a small block Chevy with a 350 or 400 auto trans. They will bolt together. The stock 4 speed won't bolt up to the back of a sbc.

thanks rondog what about the axles i know to get more lift then what i got from the tb already done i need a straight axle swap what rigs make fair donors if i can go chev i would prefer it and probably be cheaper you know toyos are pretty popular right now.i was also thingking i would have to relocate my radiator to bed roll bar is this true. and transfer case is that pull out too i know lots of question thanks this is my first small four byand the rules seem different from theri larger cousins :?:

Oh is it a 4X4 now?? If so the t case is part of the trans. so you you would have to find a separate eng., trans., and t case for a swap. IDK about the axles. Someone else on here could help I'm sure. Plus like I said, use the search feature and you'll be reading for hours. This site is FULL of useful info. Good luck.

sorry i thought i said that. my bad by the way scored a toyo rear axle for it for ten bucks not bad but it is a real pain to find the straight axle fronts by the way nice ford (photo bucket)looks like mine only red instead of white is that the e4od you got under there or the aod i love my e4od especially on a 150 but i have to put in the heavier duty bearings and some more of the later model 3/4 ton gear into mine. back to the luv who would know more about axle interchangeability i checked the search button and got lots of vague info and even something about a wagoneer axle , but anyway i will look again thanks again ron dog by the way hows your mileage in the love with the camper on it

On axles, it really depends on how hard you are going to use it. Now, a Dana 30 SHOULD work for you, but if I were going to do it with an unlimited budget, I'd go rockewells under the front and rear. Or another hella beefy option would be a Dana 60 in the front, and a 14 bolt in the rear.

And for engines/trannys/transfer cases... I'd go 383 stroker, turbo400, and I believe its the 221 transfer case, but I'm not sure about the transfer case.

Buuuut, thats just me. Engines and axles are based ALOT off of opinions.

rock wells would be nice but arent the too large and at that point might as well just stack my body on amodified blazer rolling rame, do you guys think a toyo set up front and rear would hold up to a 305 350 power plant running chev trans and tcase oh thank heaven for craigs list

Yea, it would hold up, you just have to have the right gears and beef up your axles a bit.

The Toyo axles will work and if you want to beef them up then get the V-6 diff's as they are alot stronger then the 4 banger diff's.

The adapter kits are the same for the SB 283, 302, 327, 350, 400 CI engines. The toyota axles do well with the Chevy engines. If you want to use the later toyota transfer case there is an adapter made to bolt it to the rear of a TH 350 trans. I believe the Dana 30 or was it 20 transfer case is what was used in the pre factory 4 x 4 conversions. They made a cradle to mount it in. They used the Dana 44 axes in the front, stock in rear. Some has the Dana 44's also in the rear. The Dana 60's stuff is just too heavy unless your going mud bogging or some other kind of race gig. Use a 4/5 speed, TH350 or 700R4. The TH400 requires too much work to properly get it installed.
There is a picture of 4 wheel drive SB headers at www.photobucket.com/v8luv
