Hi guys!

Just bought a '79 4wd LUV from a member and wondering if my '75 2WD engine will bolt up? I know starter is on opposite side of engine/bell but wondering if there's a way around that? Do early & late trans bellhousings have same bolt pattern? Simple problem is I don't have a later model engine to put in the 4X so would like to use my '75 for a while until I find one. Any hope on this? Thanks for any tips.

It won't work, you will need a late model engine.

Sounds like you have a project for yourself. What's wrong with the engine in the '79? Does it have a case of the invisibles?

Thanks, guys & good choice of words, ret1614! I've been trying for almost 2 years to get an offroad capable 'something' running so I can get around the hills here, can't walk much anymore. This was about the 5th attempt.

A neighbor needed a '79-'80 LUV engine which I found for him here, and the seller also had this 4WD. I bought the truck and the neighbor got the engine. I picked up the engine for him and towed the truck back, about a 200 mile trip. Then my good neighbor decided he also wanted to keep his takeout engine instead of selling or giving it to me for my new truck. What a pal. What a waste of time and money and ga$oline. Back to square one.... :~ )

Contact Rondog here on the site. He has a rebuildable core and his prices are allways fair. He is in So. Cal. Don't give up so easilly, we can find you a motor.

Hey, i am in southern utah, and have a core engine I'll give you for FREE, if you want to figure out a way to get it to you. It has a bad timing chain tensioner, (or so was told), and the valve cover was taken off to do this repair when i bought it. I also will have a running engine out of an 80 4x4 i'm going to be buying in a few weeks, but would have to get a somthing out of that one. Same thing with a 5 speed transmission (2wd) anyway: let me know. I may have some friends headed to pamona in october. Otherwise...st. george is about an hour north of vegas. you come up and i'll help you pull the motor and you're welcome to whatever you can haul from my parts truck. Take care
josh
