The most common answer using a google search is to check for a vacuum leak.

I was thinking about taking away the wistle. Lets wait for ctmandu or someone else who has played with these to chime in. Does it do it with and without the air cleaner??

if it is a whistle it is probably a vacuum leak or the butterflies are closed at start up and as they open it will disappear... if it is a sucking sound it is the carb drawing in more air then the stock carb does... you should hear the twin side draft sucking air, cool sound... any way my guess is if it happens all the time a small vacuum leak, if its only at start up for a minute or two its the butterflies( there is a little play and you can move them a bit) if that’s the case

Exact same thing happened to me. Turns out the tab I bent to use as a throttle keeper had a 2nd bolt that had threads going all the way through the manifold, so i had a massive vacuum leak where a bolt should be.

A high-pitched whistling noise was the result, and it really was loud and annoying. Check for missing bolts, etc.
