Made a start on my Diff Drop today, pulled the brackets out of my 80 Luv, 81 Luv and 85 Trooper parts rigs. The brackets from all the rigs are the same. After looking at the brackets, i decided to cut out the diff bolt and axel holes out ready to weld a new longer piece of metal in. Before i cut i made a template of the diff bolt pattern , i left the top two holes to help transfer the bolt pattern back onto the new metal, only this time 1 and half inches lower. I hope this all makes sense 8)

Looks like it should work. Just be sure to weld it up solid, those do take a bit of the engine torque but it shouldnt be too much for a decent weld to handle.

By dropping the angle, do the CV joints last longer? How does it effect how the trucks handels in 4WD?

Lessoning the angles the work at will increase their lifespan. The handling of the truck is not altered in any way. The only down side is the less diff to ground clearance.
