My driver side CV joint has a lot of play back and forth. But i'm talking about the whole thing is moving.I noticed that on the end toward the wheel I could see a gap so I felt of it and there's about 4 inches of play there.I jacked all 4 tires up and that wheel won't pull. Both boots are busted so I know that it needs to be replaced but i think maybe i've got more trouble than just a cv joint. But what gets me is it's never made any noise or anything. Please give me some advice

kinda hard to follow exactly what your saying. But the CVs are designed to have quite a bit of slop in em, the need to in order to function at diferent angles. If you look out at the wheel end of the CV shafts there should be a bucket the the boot ataches to. If you grab that lager diameter part and it moves 4" inches then the Cclips that hold the axle in place are broken. To fixe that youll have to pull apart the hubs. But if its the center smaller diameter part of the axle that moves back and forth, your probly good to go.
