Hey, any of you guys ever try those folding shackles? They look pretty cool.

Also, Is there a way to jack up the front end without using torsion bars?

And then, My friend was telling me that if I were to crank up my tosion bars, my travel in the suspenseion would be non-existant.

Thank you for any help or answers- Nick.

My wife's step-dad has those shackles on his Toyota. His truck is set up for major four wheeling, and they work great. The only thing that I don't like is the way they pop when you come over a rock. They slap shut, and they sound like someone is shooting a gun behind you. As for the torsions, they do hurt the ride of the truck, to say the least. Also, if you crank them up too much, it puts everything in a bind. It makes it easier to tear a cv joint out if you get on it too hard.

cranking to the Tbars is about the only way to lift the Isuzu IFS system. To get more lift you would probly need to do an SAS. As far as binding the4 front end, i wouldnt worry about. The upper A-arms have bump stops to limit the downward travel. That will keep the CVs with in thier opperating limit. Just make shure your not making the A arms press into the bump stop after you lift it. That is is what makes the ride realy bad most the time (no downward travel).
As far as those shakles go, they are called revolvers and please dont use them. They are a realy bad idea in lightweight and short wheelbase rigs (the LUV is both of those). I would just run a longer shakle to get more flex out of the rear end, revolvers are a vary bad idea.

is this about the revolver shackles I think they are made for rock crawling I see these on jeeps they shouldn't sound bad if they have a zirk fitting and keep it greased once in a while I would think. I tell you what if your into rock crawling this design a couple a guys came up with is awesome
They call it the BamBar controls axle wrap and axle is able to flex immensly. Sorry I thought you might be interested on the read up you can build it at home too.

i thought about getting these a long time ago, and chose to go with a longer spring and longer shackle, my biggest decision NOT to go with them was sidehills, they will tend to want to unload and also on decents they will want to open up, and also bumping up against something the back end will want to raise instead of going over the obstacle like it was intended to do. IF you get them, run a limiting strap from the diff to somewhere on the frame, so it won't have the tendency to "walk" out from under the vehicle, and can only goes as far as the strap. but i just feel there are better avenues to take that a psuedo solution to flex. i think they cause more problems than they do solutions

on the flip side......

you are still running IFS, go with them, you only get so much flex as it is now, and this will help utilize the suspension you have now, i can pretty much gaurantee you wont have a problem with these(flipping/rolling) on your truck as it sits, mainly because of the limitation of the IFS, on a asidehill it will only allow so much body roll as compared to a rig with a SAS

why?

because you are going to have way more body roll with a flexy front AND rear suspension than just a flexy rear, it WILL roll more than it does now, but not enough to be too shady on a sidehill.

if you were to lift it (i.e. SAS, and beyond) then i would remove them as you'll be getting flex out of the front that you werent getting before.

hopefully my rambling helped some 8)

well I didnt say keep the stock front but if you were wanting to later got hold of a toyota solid axle and did a SOA and use the bam bar it could make a decent rock crawler.

Sorry for the misunderstanding

yeah what boonie said. Youll be able to get alot of flex just running a longer shakle and it will be more stable and safer.
