I've been browsing here for some time to help my dad with his truck. Usually find all my answers in the search. I just wanted to show off his LUV a little as he is very proud of it so far.
I have been doing most of the work as he has, over the past ten years, had two brain aneurisms, a stoke, and is fighting back from cancer. He has managed to stitch up a nice interior in this thing! The condition he is in right now he cannot drive it but I think it gives him something to look forward to each day. I spend most of my time at his place working on this LUV, I have a very understanding wife!
Anyway enough of the babble here are the pictures...

First of all welcome to the site, both you and your dad.

That is one sweet ruck! 8) The paint is beautiful, the eng. and eng. bay is awesome, and that interior,,, wow!
I hope your dad gets well soon. I think your wife deserves a big thank you from you. Spending all the time you can with your dad is very important right now. Enjoy the truck, and the time with dad.

Thanks for all the kind words guys!! I will pass it on to my dad.
This truck has been his "baby" for many years. He started rebuilding it about five years ago but after the stoke couldn't work much on it and set it aside. I have been working on it about one year. We have done a lot to get her here and I am about ready to start it up. :D She didn't look very good when we started as he drove it back and forth to work at GM for about twelve years. It had a sunroof someone did a poor job of cutting in the roof and other little problems, like rust is a little problem. Thankfully we had a good 77 parts truck, it sure has given of itself! The seats, front fenders, patches in the bed floor, I cut its roof off and welded it on this one, and other little parts. I'm hoping by this weekend to have her up and running...crossing my fingers!
Thanks again for the prayers and the wife gets a "Thank you" nearly everyday, she deserves it!

Chuck.

That engine compartment just almost brings a tear to the eye. Not only is EVERYTHING shiny and clean, but you can obviously see all the right performance parts plainly in view. That thing is just beautiful. When I die I want then to cart me away in a luv that looks that good.

Looks like you just need a few parts to the A/C in there and it would be 100% perfect.

Thanks guys! My dad did not know i was posting these photos and he was excited to hear what everyone was saying!

rezkid: The breather is a K&N. I went to thier website and found it, I'll try to find the P/N for you. It is not the perfect fit as the outlet is almost 18mm and K&N only sells a 16mm and a 19mm, but it tightened down and fit fine with the 19mm.

We got it running last night! She sure sounds good! I made the carb adapter out of aluminum plate and the carb was one I had set up for a VW Rabbit I had, it was a 1.8L so i think it is probably jetted good enough. Thanks for the compliments on the engine compartment! That is all my work, I have a thing for engines. Lots of powdercoating, I cleaned up the wiring and installed Weatherpack connectors on it throughout the truck, added a Maxi-fuse holder to replace the fusible links, put in standard Bosch relays where I could, lots of cleaning and fitting things just right. My dad gets tired of me taking so much time to make things right. I think he thought I would never get the truck painted but he sure was happy with the way it turned out. It sure has been a lot of work but it nice to see it coming together. I'll have to post a picture of the 350 Chevy w/TPI that I had in my 75 280z...now that was a clean engine!

Thanks again!!

Bringing this back! I wanted to show some completed pics of the truck. I helped him take it to a couple of local shows and he won second in both! Not bad for a truck we didn't build to take to shows. He drives it when he can, which isn't often, but he really loves it. He told me a few days ago that when he passes on he wants the truck to go to me...I didn't know what to say...

I'm printing myself a pic of that to hang in the garage. That way when I look at mine and think ahh heck.. good enough. I'll see this pic and know I need to get back to work. :D

Thanks again for all the kind words! But really just to get it done for him and see him enjoy it made all the work worth it. We both did all the work on this thing. I did paint & body, engine & mechanicals, restored the dash, and built the exhaust. He did some of the brake work, rebuilt the transmission, and sewd up and installed the interior. Oh, I built the bumpers for her also. I think they turned out nice. The rear is incorporated with the hitch, I designed it all in my head while I was building them. I think better when I work...or is that work better when I think :) ...dunno, either way I'm happy with the truck and so is he!

That is one clean looking truck!

You and your Dad should both be proud of what you have accomplished with that old truck.

IMHO, you and your Dad are fortunate to have each other...and you are lucky to have a great wife that understands the healing power in a great little father/son project.

My best wishes to all of you.

Well done!!

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes! Every day is a struggle for him since now he can hardly walk but he keeps going with the hope of getting better. My wife, yes, she is a great woman! Very understanding! She is also grateful that this is the only "bad habit" I have. Cars are the one thing I do. After eight hours on the job there is no better stress relief than tinkering with an old vehicle!

Thanks again guys!
