Chavy: None of us is talking about rebuilding your motor, just taking it out of the truck with the tranny attached. If you don't take them out together, the trans is almost impossible to get out because it won't slide back enough to get clear of the motor. It might not make sense to take out the motor just to get the transmission out, but it really is the easiest way to do it.

If you have a body lift on your truck, then there is enough room to wiggle the transmission loose from the motor and drop it out from beneath the truck. It is still very hard though. It might seem like more work, but once you try to get just the transmission out by itself you will understand. A lot of us have gone through it, tried to just pull out the trans under the truck, and found the motor HAS to move.

Crawl under your truck and spend some time looking at the problem. Imagine that the trans has to move back about 5-6 inches to get loose from the motor and clutch. Then, figure out how to get the motor and trans that far apart without moving the motor.

Back to the sending unit. Nothing will penetrate that hardened jism. When you pull the eng. and trans together, just leave the sending unit alone and cut the wire. When you put the eng, and trans back in, just use a wire connector and fix the cut wire.
