I have a 3 inch body lift, and torsions cranked as far as they will go with the impact wrench. ;-)

I've got 31s on it with 15 inch rims. My problem is backspacing; these rims have a ton of it. The outward facing side of the rims is nearly flush with the face of the tire.

This is great for the front wheels. I bet I could squeeze 33s on these rims and never have them rub up front. As it is, the front suspension is so hard that I can catch as much at 2 feet of air and not even come close to bottoming out the suspension or rubbing the tires when I land. I think the torsion bars would tear off from the frame before I could bottom it out.

But with this much backspacing, my rear tires rub the frame on even slightly uneven terrain.

Would it be a bad thing to run rims with less backspacing in the rear, but keep the front rims as they are?

I can't say that it would hurt anything, might look a little funny (to some).

As long as you don't over do it (more than an inch or inch and a half) you could go with a matched set of four, without putting too much stress on the front bearings.

I'm not sure what back spacing means. But couldn't you add a leaf spring and replace the shocks with something a little more stiffer?

This should clear that up for you:
