Help, can someone tell me how to get the half shafts out the front diff? Im wanting to replace the oil seals. I thought they would just slide out by the looks of the picture.

Thanks.

Whe I did the CV boots on my 78 they pulled out. It did take some tugging to get them out but they came. The ends I had just had a c-clip that was holding the shaft into the diff.

Maybe a good rap with a rubber mallet on the outer part of the shaft.

Craig, if i read correctly you are saying the cv cup (see attach pic) will pull out of the diff. Other forums have told me i need to drop the whole diff housing. I cant see how that is possible without removing the shown cups first. :?

Once the end that is connected to the front wheel is out and the wheel is swung out of the way, then the other end just pops out because it is just held in by a rounded c-clip that sits in a little groove. Some can be a real bitch to get out, and if you yank too hard and too much on them, you can damage the internal parts of the joint mechanism.

Try getting a huge flat screwdiver or a long narrow flat prybar in between the end of the axle and the transfer case housing and pry until it pops out. You might even have to pry from equally opposing sides to get a good straight pull on it to get it to finally give.

Keep a rag handy, because once it comes out, usually oil pours out on the floor from the opening it goes into.

And whoever told you you have to drop the whole transfer case just to change your half-shafts really needs to stop smokin' that stuff and sober up...lol

Thanks for the info guys, btw the info about dropping the diff was provided by someone more familiar with newer model Isuzu's.

I still haven't had any luck getting my shafts out :? I have a Haynes but it has no info about 4x4, could somebody please post pics/info about shaft removal if you have a 4x4 manual. I not 100% convinced that its only a c clip holding the shaft in the housing. Thanks

I'll try to scan and post some pages out of the manual I have for all years tomorrow. I'm on the wrong computer tonight.

I finally got the cv cups out, the only way to remove them is to drop the whole diff housing out off the Luv.
