Hello to all and thanks for the membership.

My name is Dave and I am looking to restore a stock 74 Luv its been in our family for many years now and overdue for a makeover.
Have found a lot of helpful information already on this site, may have a few more questions later.
Thank you all.

Thank you for the welcome,

I have removed the tub and painted the chassis and replace the rear shocks.

If I can find one, I would like to replace the rear drop out diff center for a 4.1 ratio to improve the economy are all 2wd / 4wd drop out rears interchangeable? I have read only the 1st generation 72-78 are interchangeable in 2wd /4wd.

Appreciate any advise.

Congrats on the new build. The carriers are interchangeable at least up to 1981. The most desirable and hardest to find was a 3.42 ratio which made highway driving much better. There was an MPG model Isuzu that had that carrier in it. I had one in my 72 before the 9 inch went in. The gears are not available separate so you will need to find the whole carrier to swap. Luv parts are getting scarce but Craigslist is your best bet. Good Luck!

This would be rare even on Craigslist. If you decide to go this route, I know of a guy who sells a lot of LUV and P'up parts on eBay. He might have one (sqdeb@yahoo.com).

Since there are no markings to indicate the ratio, the best way to determine it is by the number of teeth on the pinion gear.
12 = 3.42
11 = 3.73
10 = 4.10

Jack
