Hey guys. This is my first post. I have an 81 Luv I have because my step son accidentally blew it up. He has moved on to other cars so I am going to get it going again. I have browsed here a little and like what I see. What I've seen so far is that 1.8 heads on a 1.9 motor makes it a good runner. I have to disassemble the 1.8 first to see what survived inside the motor. I would like to find a motor that bolts in which is why i think the 1.9 would be a suitable transplant. If there is a bigger motor that bolts up to the stock manual 4 speed I'd love to learn about it. I would also like to know good places to source parts
I found a rebuilt 1.9 on Jegs for 600 but I like the idea of putting a motor together myself. Anyway, I just wanted to make my introduction.

Norm,

Introductions are a relic from a more polite era. Thanks for taking the time, and welcome.

Your LUV is a 2nd generation (as far as the US is concerned). This forum is probably 98% 1st generation LUV discussion, but it's definitely still the place to be, because of the 1.8L and 1.9L (G180 and G200?) engine expertise.

For body, trim, and non-engine-related help / parts, you may also want to check out the isuzupup.com site. The Isuzu P'UP was introduced here in '81, and is identical to the LUV of the same year.

Jack

Can’t remember if it’s the 2.3 or 2.6 Isuzu that’s a direct bolt in.

i believe they both bolt directly in but the 2.6 is efi so it takes a lot of extra work to get running, the 2.3 is carbed
