Hi everybody! I bought my 13 year old son a 1980 LUV 4x4 for his birthday. He’s been nagging me for a project and I found this while I was scrolling craigslist. I bought it from an old man, in which it’s been sitting for 6 years in a field. My son already luvs the truck, and he even wants it to be his high school car. He wants to completely restore it, like paint, interior, striping, and other things. For $400 bucks, it’s a pretty solid truck. Even the motor is all complete. Over the next 3-4 years his goal is to get it finished. He hopes this forum helps, so some help is needed for parts, rarity, value, and other.

File comment: It’s a big project- a bit overwhelming- but he’s very confident in this and wants to save it from rotting and bring back to life.

Welcome to LUVTruck.com! Great to hear your 13-year old son is wanting to take on the LUV as a project. I think you/he will find there is a good group of individuals with a great amount of knowledge on many different topics. The site has helped me many times over!

Excellent way to bond with your son. Build a truck for him to drive in high school. The boy learns respect, for the machine and the man.

I stumbled onto this after reading your post about the radio. I love to see these father-son (and sometimes daughter) projects. Great job, this will be worthwhile in more ways than one.

In general, any "manual" that claims to cover 11 years is a joke. The 1972 LUV is quite different from the 1972 model--especially if the 1982 happens to be a diesel.

Year-specific factory shop manuals are still around. They may be a little pricey (or not), but they are generally thorough and accurate.
