hello all. after using this site for the few days i decided to join your community.
-new memeber
-new luv owner, 79 4x4 gas 4 speed yellow
-lots of equipment experince
-diesel mechanic
-hydraulic mechanic
-welder/ fabricator
-machinist
-certified a**hole
-bass player ( band name ' the coming war ' )
-reside in snohomish county , washington

first thing i did to my luv
-replace ign coil, coil resistor, points, and condenser.
-replace glass fuse box panel with blade fuse box panel

current issue with my luv
22v from alt. 11.8 at battery blew out head lights

Disconnect the battery (with the truck off, of course). Disconnect the main charging wire (black) from the alternator. Check continuity from that wire to the positive battery cable. I'm willing to bet that wire is broken somewhere. Most likely at the fusible links. You can unplug the fusible links and recheck continuity to verify where the wire is broken at.

The only other thing I could think of is a FUBAR voltage regulator. But you'd have constant voltage everywhere. What's telling me it's a broken wire is the 11V at the battery and 22V everywhere else...

i am assuming its the voltage regulator, but ill check the fusable links and that wire you are talking about. i just got back from a parts run so i will be able to check that soon enough. thanks for the feed back

There is also the chance that the broken wire blew out the voltage regulator.

Anyway, good to hear you got it fixed. Or at least diagnosed completely.

test drove today. after spending 200 at the dmv. got 40 miles in. better then the 2 miles i got the first day. think the heater core might be plugged. or thermostat isnt functioning properly. mildly over heated.
