Hello all,
I have been lurking on this site for quite a while prepping for my current project. I just found a 72 Luv in good shape to work on with my son who is 15.
We are building a tribute Luv to my older cousin who died very young in a motorcycle accident. He was 5 years older than me, and I always looked up to him. He had two Luvs while he was in high school in the late 80s. The first was a V8 stepside with a mail slot snorkel on the hood, and the second was a 4 cyl stepside with a rolling stones tongue on the hood.
Because my son is 15, and I want him to be able to drive our project, we are going to stick with the 4 cyl version. We've got a good rig to start with. It was very well maintained, and the suspension and steering are all tight despite sitting for about 15 years in a basement. We bolted on a new weber, and it fired right up. Next up is a distributor swap, then brakes.
It will be a fun project for my boy to learn mechanics, and we'll have a good time looking for all the old school mini truck parts. I've found this site to be very friendly and helpful, so expect me to be fairly active here (at least till the weather gets nice)
