Hi there!

I actually bought this rig about 6 months ago to drive while my main daily driver was in the shop, She is quite the frankentruck! it says 1980 luv on the title but i know shes a hodpodge of parts. Right now its sitting idle until i can throw a new carb and water pump on there, which I would like to order but i have a couple questions! I'm very excited about getting this truck fixed correctly. The person i bought it from used it as a farm truck for a number of years so there are a lot of farmer fixes on there! Engine wise, there's a g180 stamped very clearly on the right side of the block. which is paired to the 4spd 4x4 transmission. The bed is toast, which makes me sad but im sure i will find another one out there somewhere. I paid 800 bucks for the truck, and i certainly got my used out of it. I look forward to talking with everyone as i get this ugly duck to where she deserves to be.

What year were the g180 engines put in the LUV trucks? any recommendations for a replacement water pump?

Welcome to the forum
The g180 sohc cross flow headed engine the 1980 has was put in there in 76 I believe and is the same as the later 81-82 luv as well. The earlier g180 was a wedge head with intake and exhaust on the same side
As for the water pump it doesn't make huge difference as far as I know. Go with a brand you have heard of and it should last

That body style is actually a 81 or 82. Nice truck.

Really? Nope. Attach them, don't use the "Img" button. Here's the original, unedited image...

That bed looks better than most I've seen. Short beds seem to be easier to find than long beds. It took me about 10 years to find a decent long bed to replace mine, and I got pretty lucky.

Welcome to the site.

Wow! Thanks for all of the helpful posts!

The bed is incredibly shot in the middle, the sides are OK, the tailgate is swiss cheese. Currently there is a 1/2'' rubber Mat protecting my load from falling out through the center of the bed! but as far as aestetics, yeah its better than many others, the cab is just beautiful and Rust free, so I'd take my rust in the bed any day. There is a guy about 50 miles from me that has a lot of parts, so I'll be driving down there at some point this summer to hunt for a bed, and potentially a transmission, It whines like a hungry child, and 3rd is so warn down it pops out pretty easily. I will make a new post and video to see if i can get some help from you folks there.

Update on the truck now,

New 32/36 from WeberCarbsDirect
New Generic Baxter auto parts water pump
All new Tuneup essentials
Timing set to 8ish degrees, I feel like i can monkey with it a bit more to get her 100 percent.
Replaced the fuel lines in the engine bay
New Vac lines on the cracked and leaking lines

After all that, I gotta say, I am more in love with this little truck. I drove it up into the woods to hunt for some Morel mushrooms a couple of weeks ago and had no issues! most of the time spent in 4x4 high on old skidder trails.
