Hey Guys, I picked up my first LUV yesterday 1976. She doesn't run right now, not sure the problem the guy use to drive has his DD but started having issues and never got to fixing it.
It cranks over but doesn't stay fired. He told me that it might be timing or a bad plug so those are quick things to look, but the carb doesn't look to be in that good of shape.
Also when I press the gas pedal it doesn't press very far like the carb isn't opening all the way and it also sticks sometimes, not sure on that and I'm not ready to invest in a weber yet.
The coil is wired to a toggle switch under the dash that i have to flip on which i hope to get rid of and have it back to factory
I plan to be asking for a lot of help on here so be ready!
Thanks everyone Happy to of rescued another LUV!
Benjamin

welcome, good looking truck you ended up with
you may also want to add checking the points to your check list I had problems with mine not staying gapped right. and as always the stock carb is terrible even when it works. a new weber kit it real spendy but you can probably get a used weber and a new adapter kit cheaper. they really are worth the cost they run so much better

Looks like the same color as yours! Factory! any idea where you can even get this color? I might try to repaint my bed in the spring!

It is called "Westaway Tan" in the dealer brochure. You may find a GM document online that associates the color name to an actual color code if you look around a bit. A good automotive paint shop will have some sort of reference book that does the same.

The difficult part for me would be deciding whether to repaint the bed to the original color, or to let the painter just use his judgment and paint-to-match my truck's 38 year old suntan..

At some point before I owned it, the bed of mine was spraypainted a single thin coat of flat black. It looks pretty good actually - It's probably the next best thing to the original orange - and it's slowly wearing back to it's original color. I decided repainting the bed of a truck was like pissing into the wind, so I'm gonna be patient and reclaim the underlayer one load of stuff dragged in-and-out of it at a time.
