I had a 79 4x4 Mikado back before I was old enough to drive, sold/traded it off before I ever got my license. Just picked up a 1978 LUV flat bed dually 20 years later.

Has had a cheap teal paint job covering some rust, 231 Buick V6 and auto trans. Truck was originally auto so it looks at home. Factory produced steel flatbed. The dually conversion is unique in that it's all in the wheels. first wheel bolts onto the hub, second wheel bolts onto the first using seperate studs. I'll have more pics soon and will start a build thread. Plans are to get it running and rock it as is. Fixing rust issues as I go along of course.

A little about me. I'm a sucker for J-Tin and it all started in 1998 with an 89 Conquest that I still own. Couple dozen later, I've branched out in brand loyalty. Currently own a 72 Celica, 4 StarQuests, 2 Dodge Raiders (one diesel), and recently bought my 13 year old son a 70 Hilux. Also have more not so traditional autos, 92 Escort V6, 66 Rambler station wagon, LS2/T56 swapped Canyon, and a 1UZ powered 34 Ford pickup, all in various states of restoration. None quite complete because of...Squirrel!

I'm in the process of moving then setting up my garage. Once things are setteled, I'll snap a few of the collection. Lol.

Here is a visual for how the dually conversion works. Any more pics, etc will be posted in a build thread.

That's a common set up for the mini truck dually set up. Pretty much the same as the Toyotas.

Good to know more are out there. I searched the interwebs for pics but found none. All the conversions I've seen in person were big ol spacers that bolt between two stock wheels. I like this alot better but it's not as good as the full floater yota 1 ton camper/uhaul rear.

There is a duelly LUV running around my area of So. cal now. The Dolphin campers and U hauls had the floater rear ends, some Toyotas that were converted to flat beds had the rims like yours. Here is the more common Toyota dually set up, I have worked on a few that were like yours though.

Actually, not all of the Toyota RVs had full floater rearends.
The earlier ones did not and had a tendency to snap axles. 8O
The later ones were full floaters.
Easy way to tell the difference is the full floaters are 6 lug and the non-floaters are 5 lug.

Also, some of the older Toyota duallys had one piece rims, what a pain to swap tires on.

hi there! I am a new member and am exploring the site and internet for info on my little luv ton. its a 1978 base model, mini motor home. This thing was a factory converted camper by Woods Design, Inc. the same company that did the yota and datsun conversions. however, I cant find a damn thing on the Luv campers.
The back section of the cab is hand made, along with the rear body. the truck is super solid and runs... ok. I need to figure out whats going on with the electric choke, and I need to keep puttering on other things. I have already replaced little things and even did the axle bearings on the full floater rear. its just like a ford 9 inch, but has a WAY better set up on the bearing retainers.
anyways. I am just wondering if anyone has info on the dually luvs, or luv campers. I am replying here, because its an old luv dually thread that has received a little attention.
the dually conversion is the massive bolt on hub adapters like a previous member had posted, but it is a 6 lug design rather than the 5
Thanks in advance!
