Hello, I am from Salem, Oregon I'm 22 and plan on building chevy luv Stepside. When my dad took me to my first drag stripe in woodburn and I saw a Orange stepside chevy luv just roar down the track, I was like "Yupp, I am going to build that" Now 11 years later, I will make it happen.

I will be learning quite a bit and spending to much money on this, But hey I rather do this now before I have kids haha. My dad about 8 or 9 years ago was going to build a black stepside luv but scrapped that and ended up selling the parts before he passed away. My brother tells me that the guy he sold them to might still have the parts. I don't know the possibility of retrieving some of those parts back (paying of course) but It would make an amazing story for my truck.

Anyways, A little about what I am wanting to do. I want take a junkyard Chevy silverado 5.3l lsx and rebuild it and eventually turbo it. Bolt it up to a th 350 trans, Redo the suspension in the back and of course Brakes before motor. I am going to take some college courses on welding so I can weld my own roll bar with hopefully no booger welds haha, And it will be a start of a career.

Since this is my first project truck I have been searching the forums up and down for months now just for any information I can and learn. So feel free to throw suggestions and or tell me how stupid it is for doing something. I love to hear feedback.

5.3 is a great choice for what your wanting to do. maybe you can get lucky and get a aluminum block one at the yard
do you already have the luv your wanting to build?

Unfortunately I do not. I have been looking for a 1973-1978 on craigslist in decent shape for a while now and nothing I have wanted has popped up.

Yeah, I have a little chrome extension that auto searches for me and notifies me. I did not have portland on that list though, thanks for letting me know! My brother tells me stepside beds are pretty easy to install, So maybe I can just find someone parting out a stepside and get the bed from them.

Bam, Got my truck. Got it about a month ago just been slow on posting it. Doing lots of little things here and there. Redid quite a bit of the wiring, and a ton of little things here and there.

I have a Album with more pictures here http://imgur.com/a/4OtZo if you'd like to see more and read more. Eventually I'll make a build thread when I start converting over to a SBC.

Cool looks like a good start. You left coast guys have "way more" cool stuff than we have in the southern coast...
I don't know what those wheels came from, but they really fill out the fender wells.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

Well I Got her charging, I Learned quite a bit about electrical work. I trace and rewired quite a few of the bad looking/burnt up wires. Did a fusebox repair and put in a new alternator and Voltage regulator. Got it running and charging and now it blows fuses. Said screw it parked it in my garage. I got the Okay from my brothers to use my Dads SBC 350 that he built for a luv about 14 years ago(all top end work done on it). I bought the Powerbyace.com sb and th350/4speed mounts, they arrived a couple days ago and now I'm on the hunt for a th350 and the rest of the parts will be pretty easy to find.

Slowly but steadly I'm getting to it. I am learning quite a bit along the way and am freakkin excited to get this together.

Very nice, What years?

Also I haven't posted in a while, I have the engine and transmission pulled out, and the Engine bay 85% sanded down, I have the battery tray and the surrounding area covered in por15 since it was pretty heavily rusted. Now just sanding down the brake booster area because that whole side was rusted too. Going to put some por15 down on it.
I have my Engine, I just need new oil pan and short water pump.
I have my short shaft Th350. Freshly rebuilt.
I have new Acrua rsx bucket seats. Gotta make a mount for them to fit in the luv
I have my 2000 stall Torque converter.
I just need headers, radiators and new brakes. then all the little nickle and dime stuff.

Most of all, I need a better friggin job, I'm always so broke now haha.

I'll slowly get there
