Greetings from Baton Rouge...
I've trolled for a while, just signed up.
I have an '80 that is basically a rat rod - you know, the usual crap primer paint job, old skool wheels/tires, 350/350 swap.
It also has it's share of rust, but the frame is good. I had to drop the fuel tank and basically rebuild it - it had some naaaaasty rotten gas in it. The truck sat since Hurrican Katrina, the last owner bought it with big plans that fizzled out. I added 3/8" to the tank anticipating fuel needed for a stout engine. Maybe in the future...
So...

It came with an S10 single track rear end, I changed it to an '00 Blazer 3.42 G80 disc brake assembly. Someone had already done the swap, I just needed the posi feature since it did the 3 legged dog for blocks.... It would keep it up most of the way through second gear...
Now it still spins both tires through second, but it gets squirrely around 60 MPH still going sideways... A twitch of the wheel and it's off roading time :esurprised
It ran a best of 15.3 at the track with NO traction. I figure it's good for a low 14 or high 13 with traction.
When I first started the engine (I thought it was junk) it smoked and sounded like poo. I put fresh oil and filter in, and slowly it cleared out. It had no carb on it when I first got it, I put a 600 Holley on it. The intake was from a 69 LT1 350 (date code and snowflake on the intake) and has a crazy cam in it. I don't know the specs, but it idles like a kangaroo with hicups... :!:
I changed the dizzy (HEI) to a performance Mallory, and changed the intake to a Crosswinds high rise. While I had the intake off, I port matched the heads to the gaskets - the casting was horrible!! I also installed a race 750 Holley vacuum secondary (modded secondary diaphragm, secondary jet plate, 50cc pump, larger discharge units, bigger mains and secondaries, center hung bowls, etc). This really woke up the engine.

Ok, sorry for the book, but I guess you get the general idea now.
I am hoping to go to the track soon and see what it will do.
