Hi tony here

Im looking at a 77 that's a few hours away so Im trying to make up my mind before the drive. what should I look out for? are parts hard to find? will I always be wrenching on it or will they run out good?
only thing he says is wrong is the temp gauge doesn't work, is that an easy fix?

Temp sending unit. Or the wire that goes to it. Either way an easy fix. The sending unit is under the intake and has 1 wire that has a plastic connector that slips on.

They're good trucks. The carbs are troublesome. A weber is a good upgrade.

The bracket is where the smog pump goes. If you see where the top radiator hose clamps on the thermostat, directly under that on the bottom of the intake is the temp sending unit. Ground that wire and it should raise the temp gauge to full hot. These trucks will blow head gaskets if they get hot, the gauge is important.

Looks pretty clean. I would look at the floor pans under the carpet or mat. If you cant do that crawl under and look for rust. It will be ugly underneath but look for holes or repairs. 8)

To add what LUVTRKR said, look close at the rocker panels under the doors for rust or filler.
