Hello, I am from Northwest PA, where the weather is always sunny and the roads are always salt-free. I am 17 and bought my first truck back in June of this year and it is a 1976 Chevy LUV Mikado. It had a bit of rust but overall seemed pretty nice, and the interior dome light was still like new.
I spent the summer getting it running and doing interior work. I welded in new floor sections and installed new carpeting, capped the dash, fixed the saggy seat, and got all of the electrical issues figured out, right down to the seat belt buzzer. :ebiggrin I also fixed the fuel sending nit and sealed the tank. I bought it in Buffalo, NY so i had to weld in new rockers as well as patch a few small holes here and there. As you can see, the new sections are painted a slightly different color for now, but I will be repainting the whole thing in the spring. I do have all 4 hubcaps but put on 2 for the pictures.
As for the engine, i rebuilt the stock carb via Carburetor USA, 1) because my mech said it needs to stay stock to pass emissions, and 2) I like the look of the stock air cleaner. The engine runs just fine even without a Weber. I did new gaskets everywhere, and welded in new exhaust.
This site is really helpful and im glad its here! Hope y'all enjoy!

Purchase Price: $2,000 :esad

You have yourself a very nice truck!
The price wasn't too high because the truck was already in nice shape when you got it.

I say you did well!

Very nice truck, good to see a young man dive in and work on it yourself. You get extra bonus points for searching answers here instead of asking the same questions that have been covered several times. Good luck on the rest of the build.

Nice nice rig. Ones that nice are a rare find. Keep up the good work. I echo Luvrv8's comments.

Welcome to another Pennsylvania LUV owner! Nice looking truck for our area. I am in the Northeast and they are rare around here. Best of luck with it.

If you take the time that he took to repair it you are saying all that damage took a year and a half. I cant believe that truck was a show winner in 2010.

That old picture is pretty fantastic. Is grey the correct original color for the bezels? I just painted them black with the chrome band based on what i saw in an old brochure.

Living is sunny So Cal it is hard for me to understand how a truck can get that bad in a couple years in snow country. It's a bit of a eye opener for me.

Speaking as an employee in the snow removal buisness, the roads are practically made out of salt during the winter in Erie, as well as NY and anywhere around the great lakes.
