Hi,

I'm new to the Luv world and just picked up a 1978 2wd with a 350/350. Broke something with the steering linkage on the way in to work this morning. Nothing like having your front wheels point in opposite directions at 45mph to get your attention. So, unfortunately, three days into Luv ownership, the trucks already in the shop.

As far as plans with the truck go, I want to use it as a 3 day a week driver and auto cross truck. First mods/repairs are: make it turn again, get the headlights and horn working, replace all the front end bushings, and put in an alum radiator electric fan setup. Should have this done in the next couple weeks so I can at least start driving the thing as I plot out the rest of the build.

I dig the forum and all the advice. You are sure to hear from me in the near future...

-Peter

Here's two images. I'll get more when I get the drag link fixed and a few other odds and ends straightened out. My ultimate goal is to get this thing to handle. -Peter

Thanks for the welcome and the compliment. I like the rally wheels for street trim too.

I don't have pics of the engine bay, but it's pretty standard. I think the prior owner followed the Beer Budget guide, or similar. The 350/350 are out of a 72 G20 van. The carb is a Carter (I think) and it has an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, that's leaking oil pretty good from the back side. Exhaust manifolds are stock, as is the ignition. The wiring is kind of embarrassing... so, pics of the engine will have to wait til that gets sorted.

Should be up and running again within a couple of weekends. Looking forward to meeting folks in the area (Salem, OR)

-Peter

We need to see before and after pictures. I like to see the different V-8 installs. Any interior shots?

Here's links to the pics of interior and engine. I think the wheel is from a Mikado? The engine bay isn't pretty, but I guess it's not terrible. Why do I feel like I'm standing in front of a crowd in a Speedo?

Nice install. I see the core support is still there. When new trucks show up here we just like to see them. Sometimes it trucks we have seen with other owners, I don't remember seeing this truck before.

Thanks. Yeah, they didn't appear to cut into the core or the firewall that I can tell.

You can see the coolant reservoir line running in front of the battery. It leads to a reservoir bottle that is just kinda wedged up against the inner fender and not attached to anything. I'll fix this when the new rad goes in.

The wiring is really all over the place. There's a line coming off the battery that is bare in places and has melted through its plug. The headlights don't work and when we got under the dash, wires were falling out of plugs and speaker wire was used in places to run current. Have to sort through this.

The missing transmission dipstick did turn up though - resting on a crossmember under the truck!

That's a clean truck, beautiful. I like it. Just get your engine bay sorted out and it will be perfect. Welcome to your new LUV affair.

Super nice truck! And the first set of wheels I have seen that I like better than my old school slots. Those look great!

Hey Tilted - yes, the truck was posted on ebay and on a few Web auto sites. The previous owner lives on my way to and from work so I stopped by and checked it out. All in all, it's pretty clean and will make a fun project.

I also checked out this truck for sale. Coincidentally, it is also on my commute route. There were too may unknowns with it to get me to bite. That, and the paint is pretty taste specific. http://eugene.craigslist.org/ctd/3057715582.html

The engine bay can be cleaned up in a weekends time.
