I guess since it looks like I will be sticking around this site, I ought to properly introduce myself in a thread and forum meant for that sort of thing.

Hi, I'm Sarah, I'm 36, married, live in Seattle, and I just bought my Dad's 1979 4x4. It's been pretty well cared for, but she's not perfect... I'll be sorting out flaws and issues over the next few months.

I bought the truck to be my motorcycle hauler. Motorcycles are my passion and I share that love with my husband. I am currently rebuilding a bike that I wrecked in August 2011, when a man turned left in front of me. I was injured in the wreck and am still recovering, but I'm doing quite well! :) I generally do all my own work on my motorcycles. I haven't had to work on a car in a long time as I let the shop maintain our modern "cages", but I hope my husband and I will enjoy sharing the work on the LUV.

I registered the truck with collector plates before I found out you're not supposed to haul any loads with collector plates... hopefully I won't get busted for that in the future. :)

Our bike list:
2003 Suzuki Bandit 1200S (rebuilding from wreck)
2006 Suzuki V-Strom 650 (my daily rider)
2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200S (my touring bike)
2000 Moto Guzzi Quota 1100 (my husband's daily rider)
1989 Moto Guzzi Lemans 1000 (he is rebuilding and converting to a cafe racer)
1987 Suzuki GSX-R 1100 (running restoration project)
1972 Triumph Tiger 650 (running restoration project)

As you can see, we have our hands full with bike projects so probably nothing will happen fast with my LUV. She's in damn fine shape for driving, though!

And some gratuitous shots of our bikes...

Thanks to everyone who has helped out in my "what's it worth?" thread in the Newbie forum! Guess I'll stick around!

Well like you we also ride but we are down to only 10 motorcycles or so. :esurprised
I think you will be quite surprised at how easy the Luv will be to repair and maintain. A few bits of advice
Buy extra points rotor and condenser as these often times have to be ordered. IF you stay with the with the stock ignition you will want a Dwell meter to set the points. (I have a spare I'll sell cheap)
Better advice, do a conversion to electronic. I'm planning on doing it myself just haven't yet. Be patient, be choosey, good stuff is out there EBay, Craigslist, here, just be patient.
Use a zinc additive in your oil
Avoid gasoline with Ethanol added if at all possible.
Texas allows us to run Year of Manufacture plates, so if you can find an old set you might be able to register with them
Antique auto are exempt from inspection in most states so I run a 1973 repop inspection sticker on my Camaro
A move to 15" tires and wheels will give you more hiway speed
Modern 6 lug wheels pretty much will all fit although they might exhibit some weird driving characteristics
Fine rubbing compound mixed with a good high end wax will kill 2 birds with one stone remove old faded paint shine and protect the new
Some repop parts are on EBay
Good luck!

SRAD
