I've been on here maybe once before, but just to ask a question. Thought I should share more about my project, and see what you guys think. I'm building a luv rat rod. So far its going pretty good. It's come a long way in the past six months since i purchased the truck. I got it with no motor or any drivetrain at all. My 87 toyota 4x4 p/u was totaled, so I used the whole drivetrain from it. I've done everything myself, and I'm by far a professional. It's just going to be a fun toy to drive. Well here it is, 76 luv.....

She doesnt run just yet. When the motor was in my toyota it was furl injected, but i converted it over. It's almost ready to start up. I still have to get a drive shaft made and do the brake lines and a few other things before it can hit the road. The motor is beefed up a bit too. It's a 22r with forged pistons, ported and polished head, and an awsome sounding cam in it. It ran like crap fuel injected because it was untuned. So hopfully with this weber Carb I got I can get the most power out of it.

I'm sure there are some folks on here that are going to see this and be a little upset about what I have done with this luv, and let me just say that this truck was long gone when I got it. Better than being crushed if you ask me.

I still want to do something with the windshield though. I think it sticks up to high.

No one should be pissed off with what you are doing. How did you convert the front to 5 lug?

The front was allready a five lug when i got it. I believe it has the mustang II spindle conversion. The bolt pattern is 5x4.5 or 5x114. I wish it was still six lug in the front though, so it would match the toyota rearend. I still might try and find a set of stock spindles and hubs, so I can use some matching wheels that I allready have for it.

Dash Cap? Whats a dash cap? lol. I've never really looked at the dash that close.

I may be interested in trading.... But I'm not 100% sure thats whats on my truck. The previous owner told me they were mustang II spindles. They are a mustang bolt pattern for sure, but I dont really know about the spindles. Here are some pictures of the setup. Anybody know what I'm working with here?

I also thought that the five lug toyotas are the same bolt pattern as the mustang. So could it be a toyota hub, with the factory luv spindle?

You have stock a arms, modded for mustang II balljoints with mustang II spindles. I tried that and couldn't get the geometry right to suit me on my race truck.

Ok, so to me it doesnt look like anything has been cut. Do you mind explaining to me what has been moddified from stock to fit the balljoints? I'm just trying to figure if I should keep the spindles and get some wheel adaptors, or fit it back to stock. If I go with the mustang spindles, I will be getting some drop spindles for sure. I want this thing to be as low as possible. Just for the record those are 31inch tires in the back, and it still sits fairly low in the rear. I have a set of 17inch steel wheels that will have some low profile tires on them going on it. That should drop it another 2-3inches or so in the back.

The upper arms have a plate welded Got the joint. Stock arm has a big azz nut that screws on. Lower has a mustang joint. I bet it has been cut out to fit the round part of the joint. Shouldn't hurt anything.

Oh ok cool. I'll be pulling all of it apart in the next few days to get a better look at things. I might just keep the mustang II setup, unless it would be easier or cheaper to go back to stock. Any fenders out there that sell drop spindles for a luv? I've seen the mustang ones for about $150 or so. I've dropped the torsion bars for now, and I dont want to go any lower with them.

Thanks, Mike

Yeah, I think thats the plan for now. I'll have to pick up a set of wheel adapters. I have some 17inch steel chevy wheels that I want to run.

I plan to! lol. I had a 87 toyota 4x4 that was totaled, so I pulled the whole drivetrain from it, and put it in the luv. My long term plans are going to putting a toyota straight axle in the front, and having it functional. It will be like a 4x4 go kart. Should be fun. Hopefully I'll be starting it up within the next couple weeks. I haven't had the motor started since being carbed.
