Hey, My partner and I went auction intending to buy a good road car. As we walked into the yard to view the possibilities the first thing that caught my eye was a little blue 1980 Luv truck, with a topper. My partner cringed, he was dreaming sporty. My heart danced happy. You see, I was rearended on the freeway by the uninsured mayor of one of our po-dunk little towns and am now wandering about with the wretched effects of a traumatic brain injury. I have not been looking forward to winter driving or anymore panick attacks. While my partner thought a good road car was the answer, in my heart I wanted something sturdy, something from my youth that I "understood." Thus, it was love at first sight when I spotted that little blue Luv Truck. We loked at a lot of other possibilities, but I hold the purse strings, do all the driving, and am the one whose head is addled....so 500 dollars later I drove my partner and I 175 miles home in a truck that was reported to have some blow by. Serious blow by, yet she made it all the way up the mountain pass down into our valley. Am intersted to know about blow by and the possible causes. Also having carb trouble. Found a good manual on amazon.com, just need help. I can turn wrenches, just don't know as much as my partner, and I forget things now! I found this sight while loking for a fuel pump as was relieved to find help a keystroke away. Glad this site is here and am ever grateful for any help. My name is, Lesley.

Blow-by happens when you have bad rings. When the engine builds up compression, some of that is lost to the crankcase due to the poor seal of the rings and is pushed/sucked up through the PCV(positive crankcase ventilation) valve or the crankcase breather. As these old pickups carry their crankcase filter in the air filter canister, it puddles oil in the canister or is even extreme enough to suck it down into the carburetor! Hope this helps out!!

Maybe some of the magic drops, Auro RX, Marvel Mistery Oil, etc. will free up the rings, but don't be too sure.
