I'm going to be in the market for a new vehicle soon and I would like to get a small truck, I was thinking either Chevy LUV, Ford Courier, Datsun 620, or buying a second, nicer Datsun 720. I have a few questions about the LUVs though.
1) How comfortable are they cruising at 70-75mph?
2) What kind of gas mileage could I expect?
3) How are they in the winter time (would probably get a 4x2)?
4) How easy/hard is it to find parts in the real world and how expensive is it to maintain?
5) What do I look for in a LUV outside the usual?

This would be my primary vehicle and driven year round. Here in Ohio, that means salt in the winter, potholes year round, and 80 degree muggy, sticky summers. I'll have a budget of ~$2500, should I raise my budget or should that get me a decent starting point? I'm not afraid to turn my own wrench and have a garage I could do some work in.

I paid $500 for my first one and $100 for my second one.
Cut rate auto parts in my town has a chevy luv and always has parts on hand.
Head gasket is known for having issues.
I have not taken a mileage check lately but I drive it hard and I about 210 miles on a tank of gas. Alot of it is freeway.
You can do 70 to 75 mph but there is not much left in the peddle but I drive a stock 4 speed.
Upgrades isuzu pup motor and 5 speed trans with custom drive line.
if you found is website you might already know that Luvs came with different rear ends.
as far as winter goes, I have not driven my in the winter so I don't know. they are really light in the rear end. When roads are wet, mine goes sideways are corners pretty easy. Like I said I drive it like I stole it.
There is so many upgrades you can do.
Carb upgrade on stock
Izusu pup motor which most will bolt up to stock trans
V6 motor
V8 motor
engine compartment is large enough to take almost any thing you can throw at it and with 3 or 4 cross members, the frame doesn't need any mods
