basically my uncle has a 1979 chevy luv and it's been sitting here in his backyard in albuquerque and he told me i can have it but i have to fix it up. well it was orginally my greatgrandfather's who bought it in 1979 and it has now been passed down to me, he recently died october 3, 2007 and i was going to get rid of it but i feel it's right to rebuild this truck in his memory but i need alot of help. i need rare parts i.e. front bumper, a whole new dash, and alot of other stuff i can't find online, anyone have any advice i will need or any parts for a 79 i can buy?
thanks for all the help

Alex

Well you have come to the right place. But some of the parts you need may be next to impossible to find. Dashes are at the top of the list. From there it gets easier but you still have to work at it. A good straight bumper is very difficult to find also but can be found. My advise would be to watch this site for owners selling spare parts. Often luvtruck.com is where you will find the best deals. But wait there's more, Keep a watch on ebay, craigslist and any other auction sites as they will have rare parts come up from time to time. Be prepaired to spend some money if you want a part bad enough. I think there is a string here that talks about items you should hang on to (meaning if you get rid of it you may not be able to replace it) and that will give you an idea of what will be hard to find or costly when you do find.

I don't mean to scare you off, these trucks are good trucks and are a lot of fun to work on. Good luck.

If you find a fairly good bumper, it can be re-chromed, minor dings repaired or even painted black or body color if you have the truck painted. I had a welded brush guard on my 79 4x4. You didn't say it was a 4x4. I think you could even use a bumper from a different truck if you want a custom look.

Keep asking here and looking here and the other places. Good luck on your truck.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

and no it's not a 4X4
it's just a regular 1979 chevy luv base or something like that with all original parts except bumpers
