Hello,

I recently acquired my "new" 1973 Chevy LUV. There is a local flea market that I frequent here in San Jose, California. They have a used car section which I mostly pass up. Well last Sunday I saw the most unusual truck which I almost fell instantly in LUV (harhar) with.

The body is in very good condition, small rust spots here. The interior is good. The only problem is the braking, it lurches to the left when I brake. I have grand ambitions with this truck. I want to get it restored to factory stock condition and make it my daily driver. Anyone know what the mpg is on the stock motor?

A little about myself. I am 29 year old college student at UC Santa Cruz. The Banana slugs are our mascot hence my member name. Been searching for the past 6 months on a good truck and she came into my life.

I wonder if you are talking about the Berryesa (sp) flea market in San Jose? I actually used to own a 'shop' there. On the corner of market row... Scott's Valley has got be the worst highway I've ever driven, including a couple in Egypt. Scary.

On to your post...

1. I don't think a '73 requires smog. There are several CA members that could confirm or deny this.

2. After 5 posts, you can post photos. A '73 is not real common, we'd all like to see it. Check the links here on how to get photos on the forum.

3. Do a bit of searching to get ideas and some familiarity with what you've got, but don't be afraid to ask questions.

4. Congratulations. 8)

5. Welcome. :)

I do want to make it my daily driver but worry about the gas mileage. I want to keep it bone stock but tune it back to factory specs. I will post pictures as soon as I get 5 postings.

Welcome.

I'm in San Jose also. Had my Luv for 20 years.

I get low 20s mpg with an almost stock 79 4x4. I would expect you to get similar.

The brakes 'lurching' is probably a leaky wheel cylinder. It leaks brake fluid onto the shoe and causes it to stick when you hit the brakes. Look for brake fluid stains on one of the hubs.

Good luck with your Luv.
