Whats up people?

Names A.j. I live in Las Cruces, NM and I have 79 Luv. Nuthing special, just a plain rust free desert body that I did a buick 4.1/TH350C swap. I do have some plans for the Truck, as a rear swap as well as a stroked and turbocharged buick 6. Possible Ideas are creating a Buick Phantom Power 6 truck. but thats just ideas. I have built a few cars and manage to hold my own at the drags. I work at MS&C Racing Engines as a mechanical injection tech so if I can help feel free to ask. I hope to learn more about the Luv series of truck and make a few friends as well!

Cheers!

A.j.

Thanks for the Welcome, Its good to find a site that is as well dedicated to these little trucks as this one is.

So whats the popular engine choice for these little trucks round' here?

I like the SBC but............. to me there kinda overplayed........ i mean who aint got one? seriously.

thats just my opinion.

I like the Buick V6 alot... good grunt and easy to find. Not really to cheap to build but hey, thats odd ball. I myself am a Pontiac man - and would have went with an early tempist 4 banger if i could have found one.

Anywho... Thanks for the Welcome boys. Am I allowed to play in other parts of the forum yet? (Alot of forums is real picky so I ask first)

Everybody except one person on this post for starters....

Well, lets see I have a Buick V6 in my truck mainly because it was the most common swap going when I did mine and I regret not adding the extra 2 cylinders shortly after I got it done. :x There IS a reason why it is overplayed (in your opinion). Its your truck and do what you want with it and it sounds like you are very happy with it, but I am just trying to give you some insight on my regret and you did ask what was the most popular engine choice. I think there were probably just as many, if not more, V6 as V8 swaps in the 70's and 80's, now it is just good to see these trucks with ANY motor on the road nowdays. 8)

Im planning on a 4.3 out of one of the last few S10's

Just going to prepare the motor mounts as if I was doing an LS1 since the motor mounts are the same.

Dont like the 4.3? Then I will upgrade.

Im just trying to find a happy medium of MPG and horse power. And I know that there are S/C's for the 4.3 and other stuff too... So I think I will be happy with it.

Of course I have a long ways to go, and my plans could change all the way up until the powertrain is bought.

Welcome!

The 4.3 litre would be a great choice for balancing power and mpg... with a few mods, you'd think you had a small block v8... and if anyone has any info, pics, or insight on turboing a sbc, it would be well appreciated...
