I'm Don and new here so thought i would say hello. This looks like a friendly place so thought i would register.

I have a 74 Luv Mikado that i painted 10 years ago and it has been sitting under a shelter ever sense. Well i finally pulled it out this week. No brakes, no clutch, a lot of dirt and i guess you all know what the fuel smells like. Got it running without a lot of trouble after cleaning the points so it would fire but have to do some carb work to it. Have the carb off now, hope i can find a kit for it. I'll try and post some pictures this weekend. Will keep you informed.

for the welcome guys. Thanks for the kit # FullaLuv. Got one on the way should be here 8am tomorrow and i'll get the carb back together. Got it soaked and clean just waiting for the kit.

Tried to post pictures but got a message that said i needed at least 5 post to post url's or links so guess i'll have to wait. Whats the reasoning for that?

Tried to upload a image for avatar from my comp but no go there also. Resized and reduced file size with no luck. Got any idea whats wrong?

Thanks again

I believe our site administrators are trying to stave off spammers and people who might try to misuse the site, so some steps have been made to stop abuse. I hope you're not soaking your carb in an acid bath, as I have been told a spray carb cleaner is the right one to use. The acid bath removes a special coating on the carb body parts. I will be interested to know how it works out. Let us know, please? I hope it works Don.

Well this will make 3 post so pics before long.

Thats news to me about soaking in a cleaner. This will be the second time i have soaked this carb and there is no apparent damage that i can see. I'll have her up and running in a short time an am sure it will work. Can't count the # of carbs that i have built over the years. I'm a retired mechanic that now grows flowers so i can eat. Man what a radical change. I work on more computers now than cars , a lot less grease and fills the urge to fix something.

Got my carb back together and installed, now the pump will not give me any fuel. Back to the parts store for a pump but will have to wait a day or so to install. We have ice here in NC this morning and i am going to stay by the fire. Guess this beautiful weather we have been having has come to a end.

That's interesting to me. I guess the info that I was given about this was not correct, and I'm glad it's working for you. You say the fuel pump isn't delivering? When I did my carb, I filled the float bowl first by using a straw and putting gas into the tube. It started right up. Is your fuel pump mechanical or electric?

Flower power! Was that flowers to sell, or flowers to eat? LOL

I wouldn't go as far as to say your info was wrong FullaLuv. The carb may have had some sort of protective coating at one time but if it did it is long gone. I'm just saying that i haven't seen any adverse affects from soaking it. I have seen some small motorcycle engines that appeared to have a clear coating of some sort, I guess for protection, on them. The carb could have had a coating also at one time.

The pump is electric. I removed it to check and it would run but would not pump. It was a el cheapo i put on it many years ago so i picked up a new one and will get it installed as soon as the weather permits.

The flowers i grow are to sell. lol Haven't had to try and eat any of them yet and hope it does not come to that point.
