I bought a 79 Mikado longbed recently. It is black out and red in. Box-stock near as I can tell (except it has a cd player I've yet to get working). Auto trans. AC which cools but needs charging. The rearend drips a bit from the pinion and makes a bit of low howl after a few miles of driving. I hear some clicking or rattling from the passenger side rear when driving through a slight right turn which goes away if I brake a little.
I'm looking for a grill, a smog pump (mine has a wobbling pulley) and to get the rearend fixed up or replaced...

Any of you live in the Sacramento or NorCal foothills off I-80?

Nice board BTW...

Welcome ! I just moved from Walnut Creek, near concord and such in the East Bay no more than 2 weeks ago, but there are a few guys up there that can help you.

The grille is available for purchase here: http://www.partstrain.com/products/Auto ... --001.html

The smog pump just ask in the classifieds section, and the rear end can easily be rebuilt, no need to get another core. . .

Looks like you have a very nice truck there, good luck and again Welcome to the BEST LUV SITE IN THE WORLD !

-Austin

Thanks Austin.
Yeah I've found the grill on several sites, with shipping it's always over 50 bucks, more than I care to spend on it...
I've found smog pumps on-line too, a bit over 60 bucks. I haven't checked any parts stores yet. This is a part I'd want to see working before I purchased a used one, I'd rather buy a rebuilt. I had a buddy whos smog pump froze up while driving on a hi-way and then the belt broke and did lots of damage...
I'll be looking into getting the diff spiffed...

For the smog pump , check any import car or truck from the 70's at the junk yard. My buddy had a 70 something Ford Currier and it had the same smog pump on it.

And welcome to the site! My Dad lives in Grass Valley an my sister and brother in law live in Garden Valley. ( I'm stuck down here in LA.) What city are you in?

I have never seen a smog pump for a LUV, what do they look like?

On my car stuff, they were an a-typical unit, but I have seen some that were called a metric version, but I never determined the meaning on this, maybe some of the parts in it were of some metric thread or something...

I would be interested in seeing that system for a LUV.

Here's a link to the pump which I found shopping online...

I'll take some pics of the system and post them later...

Snapped some pics...
The pump...
Image
Towards the firewall and a bit below the pump is some sort of by-pass or blow-by device. It's partially obscured by the various hoses involved...
Image
That device in the pic above has a vacuum hose that goes to the wired thingy in the upper right of this pic, it's on a bracket attached the brake master...
Image
One of the pump hoses goes across the front of the engine to another deal that has a vacuum hose. This thingy is on a bracket between the distributer and the engine (sorry about the bad focus)...
Image
Here's the firewall end of the air 'rail'...
