Hello All,
I've got an 82 Diesel that I bought two years ago. I believe she had over 300,000 miles on her, the odometer quit at 219,998. I put a new one in and left it on zero so it's easier to figure when to change the oil. She wasn't pretty when I got her, but neither was my wife. I've been doing my best to keep her running,(both of them) I'm a roughneck in the Oklahoma oil patch so diesel is free if you know what I mean, but it's getting harder and harder to find parts. NAPA says they can't get the parts I need and O'Reilly's was only able to get one. Currently I'm looking for the two wired (fast idle switch or coolant switch) that screws into the water neck above the thermostat and plugs in on the left side of the motor. Also, the lever inside the cab that switches the heat from defrost position to heat position broke. I found a new complete lever set on a scrap luv in my neighbor's pasture but I tore up the dash getting it out. I don't want to tear up my dash. Any ideas how to get the face plate off where these levers go so I can get to the screws and repair my truck properly.

Hi, and welcome to the site. I know parts are becoming hard to find, but you are still able to get a lot of stuff from an Isuzu dealership. Just make sure you get them for an 82 pickup and they will be identical to the parts you need to replace on your truck. The two terminals on the water neck are parts I bet you can still get and it would be a good idea to get them new. Try your local Isuzu dealer because you'll be surprised on what parts they still can get for a 20+ year old truck. As for the face plate that covers the heat and fan switches, I'm not 100% sure on how to get it off because I've never took one off before. I would say try to look around for mounting screws and remove most you see in that general area to free up that dash area and work carefully to try to remove the plate. If you need any parts there I would say trying to go to a junkyard would be the best bet. Glad to see that you own a diesel LUV and hope to see you over on the Diesel forum. Have a good day.

Salvy

Welcome aboard, and congrats on the diesel. Saint Charles Isuzu seems to keep more old stock parts than any other dealer. I think they're in Missouri, but they'll ship, and they have a website.

I'm not in competition with LUVTruck (I refer people TO this forum all the time), but you may also get some help on the IsuzuPup.com forum. It is geared a little more toward the '81-'87 models, which are essentially the same as the last-generation LUVs.

Jack

JoeIsuzu beat me to it, but do contact St Charles Isuzu. They are great to deal with, usually don't charge shipping, and there is a guy named Merlin in the parts deparment that really knows what he is doing.

Another good source for diesel info is the Isuzu section of forums over at http://www.4x4wire.com. They have a diesel specific forum over there, and one member in particular who has a wealth of knowledge on all things Isuzu. Look for JLEMOND, Jerry Lemond, he is also a good source of parts.
