I think you have the same core as was used in the early Troopers. I had a bad leak in my 86 Trooper and fought with getting it fixed. Some Isuzu engineer had the bright idea to use plastic ends on a metal core and it seems like they all leak. I never did find any place with a replacement, though I saw a NOS Isuzu core go for $400 on ebay. One shop in town swore they could get it for $140, but found out different when they tried to get one in.
I finally found a good looking core for $40 in a yard that leaked when I put it in. It was better than what I had, but still not righ. I got fed up at that point at dumped some Bars Leak in it and it has held up for a couple years now. If you do that though, flush the cooling system first, bars leak will contribute to clogging if your cooling system is already somewhat gunked up. I've flushed the Trooper twice since treating it, and did not put any more barsleak in it either time, the core is still holding up. Some people prefer the aluminum radiator sealers, I dunno which would work best here. Original Bars Leak is pretty lightweight stuff so I think it might flow through to the heater core a bit better, but that is just a guess. Just stay away from the heavy duty stuff for cracked blocks/heads. I doubt they work well for big cracks anyway, but I bet they'd clog your cooling system much worse while they tried.
