Well I tore her down today and bad news. I found 2 bent connecting rods #1&4. They were messed up pretty good but I can't figure out what happened, my best guess is the previous owner using starter fluid since no other damage was found on those cylinders. Now I am searching for 2 rods, anybody have 2 good ones for a reasonable price? By the way, removing an engine from a 4x4 is a tough job, the crossmember is welded and the tranny/trans won't fit out connected to the engine and there is about 3 inches worth of movement to seperate the pilot shaft and flywheel. Just a FYI.

Do you specialize in replacement parts for import diesel engines? How in depth do you go in providing parts for Isuzu diesel engines? Can you also get parts for Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, and Mitsubishi diesel engines? Sell performance parts by any chance? I have interest in diesel powered import vehicles and own a few different models myself. Thanks for your reply.

Sorry I am not a dealer of any sort, only a collector of these cool little diesel trucks. I have a Uncle with a delivery service in Oregon with field full of retired diesel luv's. One by one they have been making it to my place. With lots of extra parts. One of which is a set of 4 rods in which one rod is missing a cap.
I currently am commuting 35 miles one way every day in a 85 P'up flat bed with a garrett turbo, 4-speed.and 15" wheels all with a 198000 mile 2.2. Great truck! I am new to the commputer and will someday figure out how to post pictures of the current inventory of diesels[/quote]

Hey thanks for the reply. Good to see you own an 85 PUP and is it 4WD? How is the Garrett turbo running and what is the highest psi you push out of it? I saw you joined isuzupup.com and there are even more members on there who own these diesels. They are great trucks, I'll agree with you there for ages. If you are setup with a website like Webshots or Photobucket it would be the best place to get your pictures you have on the net and then you can post them here relatively easy. Good to have you as a member here and on the PUP site. Have a great day man.

"Flattie" as I call him is a 2wd short wheel base that I built a 6' x 6' steel framework coated with spray on bedliner then purchaced brazilian Ipe hardwood for the bed. I hate doing things twice! 1st through 3rd gear around town I run hardly any boost unless my foot is in it. Fourth gear at 63 mph. I am at 4.5 psi and am taching at 3 grand. No 5th gear. Uncle Don says 4 speeds won't loose the 5th gear bearing. (Ha-Ha) Entering the freeway on the way home I have pushed it to 9 to almost 10 psi. I do have an opened up exaust all the way back with a wastegate right at the turbo. A stock exaust manifold that has been modified to mount the turbo directly on it. A three guage pod is mounted on the dash with tach, pyro., and boost. dial timer on lower dash for selected time for cool down. and for convenence a VDO dial type clock. 34 mpg is the best I have gotten so far. Look forward to posting pictures.

Sounds pretty cool once again. What size exhaust pipe are you running and do you have a muffler? When you say you've modified the stock exhaust manifold do you mean you took the factory N/A manifold and somehow mounted the turbocharger on it? Or did you use a stock turbo manifold as these engines did come turbocharged in 86 and 87? That's also an advantage that you have the 4-speed manual transmission in a 2WD. They are more reliable and won't lose any bearings like the 5-speed will. I'm on my third transmission in my LUV since it was new because of the 5-speed. I bet you can hear a turbo whistle, which I love as a feature on a turbocharged diesel engine. You just can't beat it :D. Also, where are you located in the US? Thanks.

2.5 inch to the back and exiting behind the left wheel. I am going to change that to straight out the back to try and quiet the cab down. It tends to get loud when the window is down. No a\c. Also one of my wood trucks has power steering that I would like to put on " Flattie" due to the larger tires it steers hard at slow speeds. The exaust manifold was cut and a flat machined surrface welded to it for a 3 bolt mounting system on the turbo. Stainless Lock nuts must be used and maintained for tightness as over time they like to try and work loose. I am located in the beautiful southern Oregon area. A forth gereration native.

2.5" is a good size pipe for this size engine with a turbocharger. Opening it up like that is good and you don't require a muffler either. Without a muffler most turbo diesels aren't too loud and does yours whistle? Pictures of your modified exhaust manifold would be great to see and I'm looking forward to seeing your work.

My mistake on not answering all your question yesterday reguarding the muffler. I do run a turbo series muffler. I think it would be to loud for my preference without one. I wonder what the performance would be without it? I had not considered running without the muffler.

Hey arrow, your uncle wouldn't happen to be a guy that lives in North Plains, OR and has a bunch of red Chevy Luv diesels in his field?

W/o a muffler it would be much louder, and not worth it. Run it through a flowmaster turbo muffler or thrush glasspack.... they're good enough for that application

StevePT : Actually, Uncle Don is fairly close to you being in the Albany area. If you ever met him, you would never forget the experience and I say that in a good way. Afterall he is my favorite Uncle out of lots to choose from also. Old farm tractors and ramblers and Datsun diesels and Nissan pick-ups and of course Luv diesels.

Finalman : I would have to crawl under "flatie" to see what brand muffler, but for sure I would not want it any louder. I still want to change the position of the tip from running out just behind the driver rear wheel, to going straight out the back. I like to hear my engine purring along.

arrow, does your uncle have any Nissan/Datsun diesel pickups with the SD25 diesel engine? Any out of trucks by any chance? I'm looking to buy a solid SD25 diesel engine to rebuild and install in a future Nissan 720 project truck. Thanks and just let me know.

Luvdiesel: I am not as familiar with the Nissan, so I don't know the engine #s. Uncle Don brought down to me a couple of years ago I believe it is an 82-83 Datsun diesel. The fender badges and the tailgate both say Datsun. I still drive it around the ranch every week as a wood truck. Needless to say there is not a straight panel on it. Both of my girls learned to drive in it. It is a standard shift also.

Arrow-

Yeah, Albany is about an hour away.

There's a guy here in the local town (North Plains) nearest to our home that as you're headed into town just before you get there you can look in the guy's driveway/field and see about 3-4 Chevy Luvs. I know they're all diesel because one day while I was at the hardware store he saw my Isuzu Pup diesel and wanted to make an offer on it right there. I told him "no thanks," but then went on to talk to him about these great little pickups for awhile and he told me what ones he had.

I havn't figured it out yet about what it is in these trucks that make you want more than one. I currently have my eye on one that the owner does not want to sell, but yet it just sits there unused. North Plains, North,South,East,or West of Albany? I travel to my Uncles' house quite often if your interested in digging through treasures.
