I've read it here before but can't remember or find it by searching, so now I ask: What bellhousing was made that fits a BW T-5 to an Isuzu diesel?

Thanks.

I believe that was an Chevy S10 setup, but I could be wrong. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will chime in here.

You are correct, it was the Chev S10 that had the adapter. There were various versions of the BW, but I THINK it will fit all of the T5's as they had removable bellhousings.

I dont think that S10s ran Isuzu engine past 85. I could be wrong though.

Yeah it was 83-85 that had the zu motors, i'll look at work and see if they sell that adapter or still make it.

Yea, unfortunately the Chevy S10 wasn't available with the Isuzu 2.2 diesel engine long enough. :x I do believe 83-85 is the exact correct year range that had the diesel for an option. They are rare trucks and you don't see them for sale that often. I wouldn't mind owning one down the road in the future. But, about the transmission it's a plus to have one because it's a stronger transmission than what is in the LUV and PUP diesels. The most awesome feature has to be having a removable bellhousing. That's sweet and you can get transmissions probably many places and at a reasonable price too.

yeah the BW T-5s are everywhere and perty good strong units. They were used in F-bodies S-trucks and full sized trucks if i remeber corectly. They were also used in Mustangs, so theres a LARGE market for those guys.

Finalman, could you see if the Chevrolet dealer you work at could get the "LUV DIESEL" fender emblems brand new? I would like to buy a pair for both fenders on my truck. Obviously you can't go to the Isuzu dealer and expect to get those emblems. Let me know and thanks.

I read on another website that the T5 was safely rated for 250hp, stock, according to GM. This makes sense, as all the vehicles they were in are less than 250.
They are easy to find (T5), so replacements are never a prob. However, I doubt you would ever need to replace it anyway. Properly maintained, with ATF for lube, instead of gear oil (like my first one had in it when I first got it), they will be trouble-free for a long time.

Will the original bellhousing from the diesel 5 speed in my 82 LUV unbolt and mate up with the T5 or T56 6 speed? Or am I on the goose hunt for that other Bellhousing too?

No, unfortunately it will not mate up to a GM T5 or T56 transmission after being unbolted. Now yes you can unbolt it, but it involves more work then unbolting a typical bellhousing that is no wider than 6-7 inches. The original 5-speed diesel transmission found in LUVs and PUPs is a 100% Isuzu made transmission sharing no compatible parts with a GM T5 5-speed transmission. And to do it right, yes you'll have to search high and low for a bellhousing mated in between the Isuzu C223 and the GM T5 transmission found factory in the rare Chevy S-10/GMC S-15 diesel.

Good news for some, the Diesel 5 speed front housing will bolt to the 2.3 gas 5 speed rear housing from a 88-93 truck. You will also need the slip yolk from the newer automatic tranny to make easy install rather then the cut and weld. I got the info on the Isuzu Forum where you can read all about it.
I am continuing my search for the rare T5 bell housing so that I may bolt in the T56 6 speed and gain a little Overdrive. I hope they will bolt up.
