Hi, I have a 82 4x4, and my mechanic wants a service manual. I see a few 81 'series 11' diesel manuals online, but no 82 'series 12' manuals. Is it essentially the same? or should I hold out for an 82 manual?

For the Series 11 LUV (1981) there are two factory workshop manuals. There is a regular workshop manual that covers working on anything related to the 1981 LUV. Then the second manual is the workshop manual supplement, which has the word "supplement" at the very bottom of the front cover on the manual. This "supplement" manual covers the diesel oriented fixes and repairs for the 1981 LUV. Then the next year in 1982 the Series 12 LUV workshop manual included the diesel and was a manual all in one. Apparently since 1981 was the first year for the diesel in the LUV, Chevrolet made two manuals. Thus making the "supplement" manual for the diesel models. Does make sense. Reason why I know this is I bought a Series 11 LUV workshop manual off EbayMotors and when it arrived I looked through it to find no evidence of the diesel engine being mentioned. The good thing is I bought a Series 12 LUV workshop manual before that one so I kinda figured this Series 11 "supplement" manual had to be the diesel manual for 1981. Since your truck is an 82, I'd probably wait to buy the Series 12 LUV workshop manual. But if the mechanic is working on the chassis, axles, or something that is likely the same on the gas model, you could buy the Series 11 LUV workshop manual and be fine. Hope this helps.

Bought a Clymer manual for 1972-82, with the diesel supplement on Ebay. Nearly worthless as far as the diesel addition. I think I will look into an Isuzu pup shop maual.
